Paula Deen

Correction VA: fried. Her goose is fried. >>>>>

Deep,deep fried. With batter.

good op-ed in yesterday’s NY Times that sums up the situation quite well IMO:

<a href=“Opinion | Paula’s Worst Ingredients - The New York Times”>Opinion | Paula’s Worst Ingredients - The New York Times;

Deen was required to answer questions under oath about whether she had ever used the n word, or told racist jokes. How many public figures - entertainers, athletes, business leaders, politicians - could be subjected to that kind of deposition and not be shamed?

That is not to say Deen’s actions are acceptable, but to say if we knew more about most public figures we’d like most of them less. They have PR teams for a reason.

Did the Today Show segment air today?

Yes apparently it did [Paula Deen ‘Today Show’ Interview Gets Emotional (VIDEO)](<a href=“HuffPost - Breaking News, U.S. and World News | HuffPost”>Paula Deen 'Today Show' Interview Gets Emotional (VIDEO) | HuffPost Voices)

Matt was right on her the first few minutes.

I watched the video of her appearance today. It was a bad image but it seemed to me that she was “dry crying” through the whole thing. Did anyone see any actual tears? Did anyone else buy any of it?

I have zero sympathy for her. In response to her last question during the interview: Yes, everyone says something in their life that they regret. I don’t think that is the issue here. I think she is a dyed in the wool and I don’t fee sorry for her.

You don’t need to feel sorry for her or embrace her style of cooking whatsoever , but everyone should be aware of the level of hypocrisy when it comes to the media coverage that so willingly contributes to the demise of her and her brand.
Lil Wayne can stomp on the American flag while reciting racial epithets in the presence of impressionable black youth…African Americans can drop the " N " word casually while addressing each other in a casual exchange
Paula Deen , who was raised in an atmosphere of racial division in the south admits she has used derogatory racial slurs in her lifetime is suddenly a pariah when the truth is, there are probably very few Americans who have not uttered that offensive word
SO. MUCH. HYPOCRISY

Sorry, but to mention hypocrisy after she continued promoting her high fat and sugar diet for years after being diagnosed with adult onset diabetes, are you kidding me?

I haven’t read the previous posts but please see the 4th paragraph here before feeling sorry or awful for Ms. Deen: [For Novo Nordisk, Paula Deen Strikes Again | Pharmalot](http://www.pharmalive.com/novo-nordisk-paula-deen-strikes-again)

I read part of the trial transcript and it included that quote. From 2007, not decades ago! What a horrible, horrible work environment for so many reasons.

It’s interesting that one of the complaints in the suit was a “hostile racist environment” and the woman is white. I didn’t realize you could sue for that even if the hostility isn’t directed at you personally.

Oh, ugh. This is worse than deep fried twinkies at the the county fair!

“My husband spend part of his childhood in Georgia back in the 1960’s. He lived in Atlanta in an apartment complex. He remembers one time when a black child jumped into the apartment swimming pool. The apartment manager told everyone to get out of the pool. They then drained the pool and had the pool floor cleaned and sanitized.”

That happened to a female pilot at my airline not so many years ago, on a layover in Saudi Arabia. Pretty sure they still don’t allow women in the pools, even wearing an abaya.

Funny how some of the same people who are insistent that we can’t interfere in other cultures, as, “This is what they’re used to, we can’t inflict our values upon them”…are the first to call for the crucifixion of people in this country whose values haven’t quite caught up to the times. Seems rather hypocritical. I’m not talking about anyone on this board, and I’m not supporting Ms Deen. I’m just pointing out the hypocrisy. If one is upset about things she said, that person should be enraged at how people are treated in other countries.

I’m more concerned about the racist on the Supreme Court.

As a seventeen year old, I didn’t even know the “n” word was such a taboo topic until Paula Dean got herself mixed up in it. I personally never use the word but a lot of my friends do (mix of very well-off as well as less wealthy african americans, half asians, middle easterners, & whites). It’s just another slang word we use when joking around with each other. My african american friends in particular, but not just them. They’re all well brought up, smart, polite, good kids too. I do notice that I’ve never heard any adult down here so much as whisper the word. It’s in memes everywhere as well. We are from Tennessee, but my northern friends are no different when it comes to the “n” word. I think media is overreacting much? Is it really that big of a deal?

Amen to that.

In certain situations and circumstances, yes.

I find it simply ignorant of teenagers who are unable to understand the power of a word due to its history/context.

If you’re going to use a word, know all the meanings.

Don’t stop reading there. Be sure to read the 6th paragraph, too.

A few years ago I was in Savannah attending a conference. One of the activities was a Paula Deen Inspired Tour of Savannah. It included lunch at Uncle Bubba’s. Our group received a surprise meeting with Paula’s brother Bubba over lunch. He was loud & unimpressive - an obnoxious dolt who ran at the mouth would be a reasonable description of Bubba. Very high on himself. I actually commented on the tour review card that having Bubba talk to customers is not a good idea. I am not at all surprised by the claims about Bubba in the NorvoDisk/Pharmalot article that is posted above.
