Paying deposit

Do BFA kids ever get left out in the cold regarding residence hall choice, etc.?? The reason I am asking is that my daughter’s TXState audition isn’t until Feb. at Unifieds in Chicago. She has academic acceptance at TXState and just this week we received a postcard from TXstate requesting a housing deposit so that she could get better choices of residence hall assignment, roommate assignment, etc. So since many BFA kids won’t find out until late March or even later if they are in the BFA program or not, and if they wait until then to pay any kind of deposit, does this affect their choices of residence hall etc.???

Since my son has already been accepted, we paid the deposit. But I have spoken to several current parents and it doesn’t seem to be a problem since there are only 12. Most stay in Butler since it is very near the theatre. One parent told me their student transferred there after living for a while in another dorm. So, it was not full even after the school year started. I think you will be fine waiting.

Not sure about Tx State, but most schools refund your entire housing deposit if you request it by a certain date - long after April 1. Some schools do run out of housing or make assignments based on the date of housing deposit, so if you can pay it, it will give the best options when it comes time to request a dorm.
