Paying for an expensive college in 2024

I do not receive notifications, so sorry for the late response.

The little one is heading to Rowan in Glassboro for Bio-Chemistry. They offered her $12,200 in scholarships and she is in the Condo with a roommate (They choose for you). The total out the door without any books, transportation expenses, or spending money is $10,439.00.

Below is a breakdown of everything. We decided to take the $2,750 unsubsidized loan and then she will pay it slowly over 3 years. We have extra funds but need to hedge against any unknowns for now. They have a very low GPA Requirement of 2.5 to keep the scholarship. She will also be exempt from 5 classes. They had to remove one class and add another class for 15 credits. She may even finish in 3.5 years with a few summer classes or stay the last year, which is to be seen given the scholarship situation of $6,100 per semester.

What a big difference from UDEL @ $44,196 per year or $22,098 per semester vs. $10,439 for Rowan per semester. This is approximately $11,659 per semester less. Per year savings is $23,318. The scariest part is the government loans and private loans with interest rates that average from 12%-15% per year. What a SHAM!

It’s not a sham, in state public’s cost much less than oos public’s, even with merit. My daughter was happy to attend UD with $17,000 in merit, instead of a NJ college (3 of her siblings stayed in NJ, another went oos with merit). They all landed where they were supposed to. Folks have choices.
