Anyone here is going to pay the full price; no financial aid?

Yes - I’m sure there are many of us.

3rd year S says that many do and that many students (including Internationals) come from quite wealthy families.

They took a survey of the class of 2014 during O-Week and found that only 53% of the class receives financial aid. This implies that many of them pay full price (excepting outside scholarships and loans, of course).

We’re not rich, and payed full price for D for four years.

How? Dog shared her kibble (just kidding). Old car with paid off loan. No vacations to Europe or other expensive places. No eating out. Kept our old clothes. No gym or cable.

Funny thing is we found we did not miss these things at all once we got used to the change.

And it turned out to be a great investment in our D, who took great advantage of what UofC had to offer (and gave them back a great deal in return, but that’s another story!)

Thanks everyone! I actually started a business and am aiming to make enough to pay off all 4 years on my own; although my parents can afford it. I dont want to make them spend more on me; they have spent a lot on me already. :)

Very few if any got full ride at UofC. Those 53% received some kind of aid probably do not get anywhere near amount to $10,000/yr scholarships. Obviously, you can get unsubsidised loans, but that does not count. Who wants a 250K loan at the time of graduation paying 8% interest fully amortized on day one for colleges?

I know of some Questbridge receipients got a full ride, but that is only 1 or 2 out of 5,000 students. Other than that, I’d say over 90% of the students are paying over $40K/year out of their pocket. Personally, I am footing the bill of full frieght.

BS. Complete and total BS. For one thing, 13% of UChicago students are Pell recipients.

Yep. The 53% who receive aid get on average about $30k/year, I read somewhere. That includes loans, though, so the true aid is probably around $25k/year.

I’m holding my financial aid for the year in my hand. I received $38,180 in aid this year, and another $3,200 in Perkins Loans. I’m on the less wealthy end of the UChicago student spectrum, and therefore am eligible to receive an Odyssey Scholarship (which was this year worth $3.2k), but I’m certainly not one of the poorest students here. Custodial parent makes $50k/year + $10k/year child support.
