<p>What is the going rate to pay a college kid to drive a car or a small moving truck from Los Angeles to Sacramento?</p>
<p>I assume it would include a stay in a motel and a flight home, but what’s the going rate for the actually driving part? I think it’s a 9-hour drive.</p>
<p>I know you can hire professionals to do this, and that is an option, but I also know some kids that would like to make a little money, and I really have no idea what to pay.</p>

<p>I think you also need to add in insurance. Personally, I would not allow my kid to do this. Too much liability involved if something happens with or to the car. Now…if my kid did this through an agency, that would be fine. Privately…nope.</p>
<p>Yeah, that’s a good point. Maybe hiring a professional mover is a better idea. It’s actually not for me. I’m asking for a family member who is on a tight budget.</p>

<p>Could the family member do the driving and flying? I’d also be concerned about the liability. Our S paid to have a car put on a trailer and hauled SF to VA. We paid for shipper to get a car HNL to LA apt for D. S was able to get himself down to San Diego and drive vehicle to LA. </p>
<p>I am very nervous about teens and young adults driving long distances in any vehicle I own, especially with potential liability issues. </p>
<p>Privately done, there can be a dispute about the condition the vehicle was in when the drive started and ended. That is one of the reasons private companies are bonded and take meticulous notes after inspecting the vehicle, getting a signature at both ends.</p>
<p>A small moving truck may even require a commercial driver’s license, depending on the size. Would not want a college kid attempting this even if no CDL required, as most do not have experience driving this type of vehicle.</p>
<p>It’s one day of work, no hotel will be necessary. It’s an easy drive once you make it out of LA. I’d say $100 plus meal money. (assuming no loading or unloading). the key would be finding someone who doesn’t need to get back to LA.</p>

<p>Depending on when they need it done by, and if they’re willing to assume the legal risk, there are quite a few UC Davis students who would probably do it.</p>
<p>I had my car shipped from Philadelphia to SF for about 800, so from LA to SAC should be very cheap perhaps $3-400. To have some one drive it will cost at least 200 plus gas and the liability associated with that is not worth it. What if there is an accident and the driver got injured?</p>
