Paystub/Salary Question

This is going to be a really stupid question, but I figured I’d ask it anyways. I work at school, and we are paid on the 15th of the following month for work we did in the previous month. Is my income for 2012 then my paystubs for the year of 2012 (so work I did through December), or is it the amount I receive for working in 2012 (where I won’t know how much the income is until Jan. 15th)?

Thanks!

Anything that was paid in 2012. If you get a paycheck in January, that is 2013 income. You will not the year-to-date figures will reset, and only include income from that first pay stub of the year.

Thanks! (:

It is important to note that the date of record is the date printed on the check, which might not be the same as the date you actually recieve it due to the holidays.

It sounds like your company pays once per month on the 15th. If my understanding is correct then your December 15 paystub will be reflect your earnings for 2012 regardless of how many hours you work from December 15 through 31. You are paid for these two weeks in your January check and they are considered 2013 earnings (based on when your company pays you) even though the work was completed in 2012.

However, if your company pays on the 15th and 31st of each month then you will need to use the December 31 paystub even if you don’t receive the check until January when you return from the holidays.

In my instance, it’s that I get paid Dec. 15 for my hours done from Nov. 1 to Nov. 30, and that I don’t get paid for work done in December until Janurary 15. So if the last paystub I will receive from them in 2012 is Dec. 15, I (think?) I’m good. Thanks!
