In the spirit of reminding people that going to MIT and being a scientist or engineer doesn’t mean you have to be boring and one-dimensional, I wanted to call attention to a PBS Nova webseries called “The Secret Life of Scientists & Engineers”, which profiles scientists and engineers who have a “secret life” doing something you wouldn’t expect.

Since WGBH is based in Boston, there are actually a fair number of MIT students and alums who have been profiled, and even one MIT professor. The second season of the show debuted today, and the scientist profiled this week is an MIT alum from the class of 2006 who’s now a graduate student in neuroscience at Harvard; when she was at MIT, she was a cheerleader. (She is also a moderator on a college discussion website called College Confidential. And by amazing coincidence, her name is also Mollie. ;))

Check it out! And report your findings back here.

Ah Mollie you’re awesome! I spent my past two summers doing neuroscience research at Stony Brook University. There was this one time (probably sometime in August) when I got new and significant data I was so excited that I did a little dance in my lab which needless to say, made my professor laugh. When I was commuting home that weekend by train, I wanted to shout out to the entire double decker train that I had discovered something new. I didnt, but you have no idea how much your video made me smile :)
