PDF vs DOC? Which is more formal? In college applications,essays, resume, letters or recommend etc.

Does it matter? I think PDF is more universal because most downloaded files are in PDF. Most programs quickly launch adobe to open up a file, where areas, in takes some time to open up Word.

I have a MacBook. So my default word processor is Pages. When I share or upload files for my classes, I manually converted to Docs. But never thought about if I should rather use PDF. Such cases in school reports, college applications (which I’m working on so many), etc.

If the recipient has no need to edit the file, then a PDF is more likely to be rendered correctly using a lighter weight rendering program (PDF reader instead of a full word processor).

Not sure how universal this is, but when I applied to Maryland, I submitted word documents which they automatically converted to PDFs.

@Matt846‌ That’s the school I’m applying to.

PDF is best, it looks more professional imo.

I would for sure recommend having your documents that you need to send in PDF, one because it looks a lot more professional, as well, it is a easy read for the other person.
