Peace Corps or JHU

Hey All,

I am a currently in my undergraduate at Oregon State University getting ready to graduate this coming spring (woot woot!). I’m simultaneously preparing my application for both Johns Hopkins MSPH in Population, Family and Reproductive Health but came to a bit of a fork in the road.

It appears that if I want to continue my application for JHU I need to hold back on Peace Corps until I am either rejected/accepted. The advise my adviser gave me was to ask around and see what the school and current students thought about my chances of admission/whether or not I should get work experience before applying. Obviously this forum is not my only place for feedback, but it doesn’t hurt to post and talk about here as well!

So here is me in an academic nutshell:

Majoring in Biomedical Anthropology with a 3.98 Institutional GPA, however I messed around my freshman year and got five to many B’s so my transfer GPA was a 3.4. Also I am earning a certificate in Medical Humanities

2 years Undergraduate Research (published) on Sex Selective Abortion in India

3 months working in a health clinic for mother and child in New Delhi

3 years as President of Global Public Health Brigades, traveling to Central America to build/improve health infrastructure

Pretty good letters of recommendation from my thesis adviser (who is also the head of the international studies department) and the chair of the Philosophy Department (I intern for him, creating the new theology department)

Gates Millennium Scholar

I don’t have my GPA scores yet unfortunately but hopefully you guys/girls can give some feedback!
