PED classes

do these classes factor into your GPA?

Depends on what college.

College of Education: “A maximum of three semester hours in physical education activity courses can be counted as free electives in the College of Education (this does not include KIN 119 classes). The grades will count toward the GPA.”

College of Liberal arts: “They do appear, however, on your official transcript and the grades are averaged into your cumulative GPA.”

College of Communications: “Physical Education courses (PED) will NOT count toward the 120 hours need ed for a Communication degree. They will count toward a student’s GPA and
classification hours only.”

Business: “The only exceptions are Physical activity (PED) courses, which may not be counted toward the Bachelor of Business Administration degree.”

“Any courses, lower- or upper-division, offered within the McCombs School of Business, or through any other college at UT Austin may be used, again with the exception of Physical activity (PED) courses.”

I would assume it’s counted into GPA though?

Any course that appears on your transcript that does not explicitly say Pass/Fail or has a little asterisk beside it that says “Not counted” will be counted toward the cumulative GPA. This may or may not be reflected in the major GPA depending upon the degree requirements. The “Not Counted” asterisk appears for a variety of reasons. Two known reasons:

Courses assigned the symbols Q, W, or O may not be counted.

Certain courses may not be counted toward the degree because of duplicate or equivalent coursework taken at a later date.

This is something you should ask an advisor if you are in one of the colleges that don’t explicitly say it online.
