Hi guys. I’m aware that one cannot receive a Pell Grant for more than 12 semesters/6 years. But let’s say I went to school for one semester (fall semester which I completed and got credits and a Pell Grant for) but withdrew from the school shortly after and thus did not attend the following spring semester. Would that spring semester still be subtracted from the limit of 12?

And just really quick, if a school requests a federal tax transcript after you’ve applied for financial aid, do you have to give it to them even if you use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool?

It’s not really 12 semesters … it’s 600%. I know it seems like it’s the same, but it’s not. Go to www,nslds.ed.gov and check Financial Aid Review. You will be able to see the %'age you have used to date.

Agree about the tax transcript. If you made any changes at all to the info after you imported it using the retrieval tool, you will have to obtain a tax transcript. It is easy to obtain now … you can download it immediately: <a href=“Get Transcript | Internal Revenue Service”>http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Get-Transcript.

My daughter’s school sent her an email saying we were being verified and needed to send a tax transcript. It didn’t mention the DRT. I used the DRT after we filed and then sent an email to the school finaid office asking if we still needed to get the transcript. They said no. I think they just haven’t updated their computer generated email to include the DRT option even though it’s been available for 3-4 years.

Just send a quick email to the finaid office and ask.

If the OP was specifically asked for a tax transcript, chances are changes were made to the tax info after it was imported. There is a code that shows up when this happens. In any case, it is easy to get & easy to send.

Thanks kelsmom (and the others), I wasn’t aware I could check the percentage. Looks like they didn’t count that semester.

Guess I’ll just contact the school for the tax transcript.
