Pelosi Comments - What's behind them?

Richarson was the biggest disappointment during the primaries. Long before the election season started and before Richardson announced for the Presidency, I “endorsed” him as a potential Dem that I could support. However, seeing him in the debates, I was shocked that all of his “expertise” was ankle deep.

I think hayden may have meant Mark Warner, not John Warner? Mark would be a fine choice. Personally, I’m still holding out for Clinton/Obama or Obama/Clinton.

“Personally, I’m still holding out for Clinton/Obama or Obama/Clinton”

What is the appeal for you?

I think Hayden meant Mark Warner, can we dump Obama and take mark Warner???

I think Pelosi has just been paying attention. Neither Obama nor Hillary would be willing to be #2.

Obama/Webb would be my dream ticket.

"Edwards will be a likely #2 for Obama. "

Blue, that's “my” dream ticket. I have thought this for awhile. I hope Obama has the good sense to solidify his appeal, rather than opt for a tired has-been of the party that others tell him is “safe” but which would dilute his electability. (I.m.o.)

Hasn’t Edwards said that he has absolutely no interest in another Vice-Rresidential bid?

poetsheart:

Politicos change their mind all the time. :)

But, yes, I think it will really depend on his wife’s health. If Obama does win the head of the ticket, he could use someone to buttress his own resume: 1) someone with bonafide foreign policy/military experience, (not many in the Dem party); 2) someone with more legislative experience (but that would go against his whole campaign since they would be an insider); or 3) someone who could help him win the Electoral college (and I think Edwards can do that since the two could likely sweep the south & Calif & NY, which all but makes it impossible for McCain to win).

Just my $0.02.

Chris Matthews was on the Today show this morning supporting momof2inca’s theory from post #3.
momof2, make sure you answer the phone next time they call for political analysis so they don’t have to resort to someone else like Chris!

Hmm. Got to thinking about this - how about Obama / William Cohen? I suppose it’s beyond reason to believe that any major party would ever have a split ticket, especially given the notion that a potentially presidential VP would have an edge in the elections 8 years on, but still…

Wow, I’m laughing here because I can’t believe I made such a glaring error as to write John when I meant Mark. My only excuse is that they’re both Gospels. Tis the season! So yes, all of you who pointed out my error, I did indeed mean Mark Warner. I like him a lot. He’s running for Senator now, though, so not sure what the Dems would do to replace him on the Virginia ticket if he ran for VP. That in itself might rule him out.

just read some more of the later posts. Agree that Richardson didn’t do well in the debates, and he didn’t blow me away either. But Obama is weak with Hispanics, and Richardson might bring some strength to the ticket with his background. But to repeat my earlier comment, he must shave !

I was going to suggest Bayh also, but after my earlier gaffe, I was too gunshy to attempt the spelling. I might have ended up suggesting Bay Buchanan . . .

Cohen? Eh, no. With a hard fought primary like this one, no one could pick a republican running mate.

What do you all think of Rendell? He could help unite the Dems by bringing in a Clinton supporter who could at the same time shore up a big state for the Dems.

re: Pelosi’s comments…in today’s WSJ OpEd page, a columnist suggests that the Dem Leadership is dangling the Speaker post to HC if she withdraws graciously.

Re: the appeal of Obama/Clinton or Clinton/Obama: I’m actually a Clinton supporter but like Obama also. Given each appeals to different demographics, they could be a strong ticket together…if the party gets it together. Their message would certainly be consistent and clear, and I’d be optimistic they could go in the right direction the county needs.

As a Virginian, I think Mark Warner would be a very appealing VP for either, but between his Senate run and family considerations, that’s probably unrealistic. I’m a Webb supporter, too, but think he’s still a bit rough around the edges.

I don’t think Webb would accept the VP slot if offered by Clinton. But I do think he’d take it if it was offered it by Obama. NOW THAT! would be a powerful ticket. Webb would bring along a lot of positives, e.g., he once beat up Oliver North.

“a columnist suggests that the Dem Leadership is dangling the Speaker post to HC if she withdraws graciously”

Do you mean Senate Majority Leader? Reed might have something to say about that. Speaker would be interesting though, if they can get Pelosi to go quietly.

^^Doh! I will go back to my nap, now.

^^

After one of my many faux pas, I find claiming to have had one too many swigs of Beaujolais a lovely excuse. It’s particularly effective on Friday and Saturday nights.
