Got ours delivered yesterday, and already completed 2 rides. Awesome! But I’ve always loved spinning, and have taken gym classes for almost a decade. The big difference is that now I can do short or long rides whenever I want, without planning ahead and getting myself into the gym by a certain time. And it is great to choose amongst so many different instructors, routines etc - the choices are almost endless. It is expensive, but I consider this an investment into our health (both H and I do spinning and cycling). I just hope the excitement lasts, and they deliver good customer service.
Congrats! Just out of curiosity - how expensive is it? Do you need to pay a monthly subscription? IS the seat comfy?
The machine is $2,000 (I know!), plus the taxes and $250 delivery fees. If you want extended warranty for a second year is $175 or a third year is $225. But it’s built exceptionally well (we tested it in a showroom), and has many improvements compared to the standard gym versions. The monthly subscription is $39, and it is required - without the subscription, this is just a spin bike, so not worth the money.
The seat is comfy, but I never have this problem in general. Not sure whether you are able to exchange the seat for other options. I would definitely try to find a showroom if you can. They allow a “free” return within 30 days, but the $250 delivery fee and $250 pickup fee are not refundable.
Thanks for chiming in here - I have looked at the Peloton for a long time now and am really thinking about it. I like spinning but we don’t have many options in my area - thanks for the report!
Congrats. I was a competitive licensed road racer during HS and college years and have been a lifelong rider. I have seen that item and have considered it. I am not a fan of spinning as I tend to overheat and just cannot perform as I like. The open road is always calling me and prefer cycling on local roads for the thrill.
But it sure would be nice during these cold winter months here in MA.
^^ Exactly! It’s very difficult to stay in shape while relying on outdoors cycling alone - even during the warmer months, the weather is too unpredictable. I am a member of local cycling club, and the majority of riders are retired or semi-retired - they have much more flexibility to ride together. And I am scared of road cycling alone - I’ve heard about too many accidents, and there is safety in numbers (our club is very good about it)
I was also concerned about overheating, but we put it into a room with cross-ventilation and a dedicated AC zone, so it is easy to adjust the temperature quickly.
Those look like a decent indoor training tool. I might get one to replace an old Lifecycle unit we have.
Or you could get a fat bike and ride all winter. Riding in the snow is so much fun!
@MassDaD68 Did you know that some of the classes are recorded by pro cyclists? I have not tried those yet, and probably won’t be able to keep up, but this could be perfect for you.
“Train with the guys who actually ride the Tour de France. Expect heavy intervals and all out effort to build your endurance so you can go the distance.”
I agree. that is the main reason why I looked into it. I also understand that the European courses are part of the on-line library so one could actually ride TDF stages virtually. That would be so cool. To climb up Alpe d’Az. So cool.
It looks terrific. I think it would be a great addition for a cyclist or someone wanting to cross train. I spent more than that for my treadmill. I think it’s a good investment.
I might want to make this my one “wish” on the other thread.
Can I add wheels to it so I can easily bring wheel it out the sunporch door onto the backyard deck - how great would that be? Outside feeling the early morning - or even night air but also great for poor weather days.
Agree with MOfWC - $2k is not bad at all for a solidly built fitness machine.
Is there a specific type of floor/surface that’s needed?
It comes with a mat, so any regular solid floor (hardwood, tile etc) should be fine.
@abasket It does has 2 wheels (similar to regular spin bikes), so you can bring it outside if the patio is the same level as the exercise room, It weighs about 130 lb, so it is doable, though could be a little tricky. The monitor arm is very easy to disconnect and reconnect (with only one screw), so this is a plus. But you would need to make sure that you have good wi-fi connection at the patio, and you need to plug in.
We actually would have all of the above - direct access to the deck, wireless on the deck and appropriate plugs - now I just need the $2000 and someone to take the piano so I have room for it!
^^ Sounds like you need to sell the piano for $2000 – problem solved!
=D> perfect solution!!!
Question: do these guys have showrooms? Can’t get to their website from my old device.
They do, Bunsen - 4 on the west coast, all in CA. Santa Monica, Palo Alto, Newport Beach and Corte Madera. I see one near my daughter - I need to check these out.
Thanks, sabaray! Palo Alto used to be like a second home…
Will check them out. I think Mr. might appreciate some indoor riding buddies as I don’t always have the time to be his exercise partner.
