@ylmc123 - I don’t know… the girl who got an interview had stats that blew mine out of the water and now my parents were like, well obviously they want nothing to do with you.
Ouch… that hurt cause I really wanna go to penn :(

aww that was harsh. there are a lot of people that got into penn without an interview. don’t lose hope futurephysician!

my counselor actually told me that most DO NOT get an interview. So, don’t fret…

as for a previous question: do M&T’s get a separate interview process?
Yes… my interviewer said that this year M&T specifically is trying to reach out to all applicants by Feb 28th. but again this interview policy may only apply to special programs such as M&T.

good luck to everyone else!
33 more days i think? … argh!

futurephysician, you should really read some of the other posts! Interviews have nothing to do with the quality of the applicant. They have everything to do with the convenience of the interviewer. I’ve said this before, but I’ll explain again.

When the applications are first reviewed, they are all sent to a team of interviewers. All are alumni volunteers with normal jobs and families (i.e. none are paid by Penn unless they work at a different department). They look at their own schedules and then begin to call up applicants and make arrangements to meet. The number of applicants that they can physically get to is who they interview… it has nothing to do with application stats.

The interview itself is more informative than anything else. It could push you over the edge if you are on the cusp of acceptance, but it really has very little bearing on your application.

For what it’s worth, I was interviewed when I applied, and I am good friends now with the person who interviewed me, so that’s how I know this stuff!

How rare are interviews to internationals? Is there any chance I might get one in India?

Honestly, my interviewer told me she wasn’t going to do it this year but that they called her in February stating that they had a huge increase in applications and that they really wanted her to interview, so she accepted. Otherwise, I would not have gotten one either. I think it’s pretty clear that the lack of an interview can be attributed to a massive increase in applicants.

Haha non of the 4-5 Penn students I know got an interview :P

I got into Wharton without an interview if that means anything. At my school, 5 other kids applied to wharton, and none of them got interviews. 4 others applied to CAS, and they didn’t get interviews either.

So I’d have to agree with the fact that interviews probably don’t mean TOO much - it’s certainly something nice, as it puts a face on the application, but i wouldn’t count on it making a huge difference.

so do the final year reports need to be sent in? and do they have much weight? because i’d like to enjoy my last couple months as a senior if i can hahaha

Yeah, I’m pretty sure you need to send a final year report. Slack off a bit but not enough to get C’s/D’s!

darnnnnnn. not that i was aiming for C’s and D’s, but calculus is just something i will never fully grasp.

So guys, about 20 days left :)

until i get rejected probably…

I have a good feeling about Penn. I don’t know what it is, but I have a good feeling!

( : Just trying to stay positive here.

Yay for positive vibes. I’m getting no vibes from Penn though. Does that translate to a waitlist? Noo clue. :P

hey ocgirl. what was your decision at washu? i got waitlisted so i guess thats why im a bit of a negative nancy at the moment…

@wangatang: I got WL’d too.

But that doesn’t mean anything! Check out last year’s forums on cc - a lot of people who were WL’d got into HYPS, etc etc. I was a bit bummed… but don’t worry about it.

Some people THIS year got wait listed by WashU, but were already accepted to Yale EA, got likelies from Dartmouth, Brown, Columbia… so again! Means nothing!

Be a… positive Patricia? Haha

WL is paranoid about yield. I find it to be a good litmus-test school for your chances at better schools because rejection/waitlist there = acceptance in top school

@necrophiliac: Do you mean WashU is paranoid about yield? Yeah I’ve been hearing that too.

If you’re right… looks like a lot of angry CC’ers on the WashU board have a lot to look forward to in upcoming weeks.

Anyway! To pass the time - can we talk about something that doesn’t have to do with freaking out? Or pointing out flaws in our applications? ( :

Hey guys,

This might sound noob, but what exactly is yield?? I was WL’d from WUSTL too =)
