*Penn Class of 2020 Early Decision Discussion*

I’m pretty sure it’s just one interview.

@stehyh Check this out. Statement from Penn themselves.

Beyond the US borders, the story is the same. There were 6,215 international applicants to the Class of 2018; those admitted came from 84 nations, with the highest numbers from Canada (57), Korea (39), India (34), China (29), Singapore (25), and Hong Kong (22).

SO yes around 30 each from India and China! Surprised to see that big a number from Korea though :o

@ShaunakK98 - Not sure if the above apply to you as you are an US citizen.

@shivaya I hope they don’t :stuck_out_tongue:

@jarrett211 that’s funny because I’m from New York and I still haven’t gotten one! Oh well, whatever happens happens for a reason.

Nothing makes you believe in fate quite like college admissions

@TheWaffleMan149 - especially when the criteria is “HOLISTIC”.

@ShaunakK98 - So, are you applying to be considered as part of the international pool or competing with the US pool of students? They both could have pros and cons. If you are applying for FA, can you apply as part of the international pool and but for FA be part of the US pool?

See when I called the admissions office, they said admissions will still be need blind for me because I’m a US Citizen @shivaya So that works in my favour

@ShaunakK98 A+ for research lol. I already know 9 people (including myself) applying to UPenn from China for ED, and I’ll see more since UPenn is gathering all applicants from my city for interviews. I’m quite shocked how there’re 59 students from South Korea! Guess that UPenn kinda overlooks most Chinese applicants’ test scores…

39 not 59! @stehyh
Thanks for the grade :stuck_out_tongue:

@Kat101 please can you share your views on who gets into / doesn’t get into Wharton and M&T. What sort of ACT scores are accepted.

@Kat101 - Would greatly appreciate your view on profile that gets accepted to Wharton for an Accounting or Statistics concentration or a no declared concentration?

@ShaunakK98 - So you will be considered in the international pool for admissions but in the US pool for FA. Right?

I have another cousin who was in a similar situation, but not sure how she came.

@shivaya I think thats how it is

@Kat101 What is the policy to defer enrollment? Do you have to notify them that you well be deferring enrollment (Say for purposes like compulsory military service) while applying?

@ShaunakK98 - looks like you have the best of both worlds, going for you ;))

@shivaya Do you know what? Those are the EXACT words a Penn representative said when I called them about this.
“You have the best of both worlds. Admissions will be need blind for you, and you will be in the pool with people from your demographic region”
However, I dont see how the second part is good. Indias competition is way way more intense than the US competition!

@shaunakK98 Just curious. Do the students who live in India focus as much on their extracurricular activities as the students who live in the States?

@ShaunakK98 - there are many theories and I prefer NOT to get into that discussion - it won’t be “holistic” :wink:

May truth prevail and the deserving ones be rewarded. All the very best to all!

@desie1 Yes!! Indian applicants are mad - Super high test scores, great academics, amazing ECs! The only problem is the ECs are pretty much the SAME for everyone, because opportunities are limited. EVERYONE does debate, music, writing, MUN, social work, School Leadership, etc.

@shivaya Haha yes :stuck_out_tongue:
