*Penn Class of 2020 Early Decision Discussion*

I’m just going to open them with my friend… I think it’ll be okay whatever happens. The only nerve-wracking part is that there’s a video that plays if you get in, so if you don’t see the video I guess you assume the worst… but what if the video just doesn’t load? Or Penn decides to take it out? Two weeks folks!

@SylvRsr 3.7/2310/35

haha in response to everyone’s concern on the partying-I actually applied to schools with this mindset on social life; intellectual environment with parties when I’m in the mood. I know for a fact that Penn has that environment, and I know that my interviewer and I had a lovely discussion on that, since he went to Penn for the same reasons.

In high school, I party, but I am not really regarded as a “party animal” type, just more of a “will show up and engage” type. The majority of kids I know who applied for Penn are either like me, or do not really party at all. The kids I know who really partied usually went for schools more like… state schools haha UMiami is a popular one I can think of.

SO anyway, point is, you won’t have to party if you don’t want to

@teenagecrime 2310 is not good for Asians? Please tell me you’re just being modest because I’m Asian and my SAT score is only a 2230…

wait, there’s actually a video that plays if you get in?!?!!?

I was reading on this thread a few pages and I saw people criticizing the statement “you’ll end up in a good place.” People were bashing it, but I just wanted to give my opinion a little bit perhaps to make the rest of you feel better/not hate on this statement/people who say this to you as much. I know many of you may hate the statement, but think about it this way. We are applying to the University of Pennsylvania. Keep that in mind as I continue. None of us are shabby. Excuse me if this seems pretentious, but I think we are the cream of the crop of high school applicants to college. I’ve seen a lot of the credentials of many of you on here, and I recognize that while there are differences among us, we’re all relatively equally qualified. We may not all get in, but most of us, if not all of us, are at least qualified to a pretty good extent. Even if we don’t get into Penn, we’re probably ending up somewhere decent. To reiterate, even if we don’t end up at Penn, we are all extremely qualified and we are going to end up somewhere decent. Maybe it’s just me, but I would be perfectly satisfied to end up at a school like NYU if Penn doesn’t work out. I don’t think people should be having the mentality that Penn will determine the rest of our lives. It would be different if we were applying to schools like the University of Phoenix, no offense, where our prospects for success are dramatically changed. But the fact is, each of us has the drive, the motivation, and the tools to succeed pretty much regardless of where we end up because like I said, we’re all going to end up in good places.

@sylvrsr I’m not quite sure. I know among my family friends who actually made it to the caliber of school I am looking at, my scores were considered the weakest…I don’t necessarily feel my score is “not good”, just nothing special.

@teenagecrime Are you from a city where there are lots of Asians? I know many Asians who have crazy SAT scores and usually they are from big cities. I’m from a small central Pennsylvania town and there’s about 3 Asians in my school (around 1600 people in the whole class) Do you think in general big cities have an abundance of Asians with high standardized test scores? I’m worried because I’m obviously Asian and I don’t have high scores. Some people tell me English is not my first language so it’s acceptable that I didn’t score that high on CR and W, but others say Asians all score well on those sections.

@SylvRsr There’s nothing you can do about it now, anything above 2100 makes you a candidate.

@sylvrsr I’m from a predominantly white metro area of a big city, and my score is relatively an anomaly among my peers, but I have a lot of family friends from the suburbs of central and south jersey, so that might make sense. Anyways, its not like your score is a bad one.

Wait there’s a video? Now im even more freaked out…

@girl1425 @teenagecrime Thanks for the responses. I think I’ll just stop worrying since I can change neither my SAT scores nor my Asian heritage haha. Hopefully my strong math&science scores will outweigh my CR and W scores.

@Makooks @piant1 Yes, it appears in this video, right after the 1:00 mark. It only shows for acceptances (not deferrals or rejections) and it says Congratulations! and plays music.

Well now my fantasy has a soundtrack

I might mute my laptop so I can close my eyes after I open my portal and open them when I’m ready…

I really wish everyone didn’t know I applied. It’s going to be so embarrassing when I have to tell everyone I was rejected. It’s not even like I told that many people. People at my school talk…I remember once, after an APUSH test I was talking to a friend, and was like “how did you do?” And he was like “I got X…heard you got a 97.”

My friend and I are betting on whether or not I get into Michigan :))

I can relate. People that don’t even take AP Euro come up to me and say things like hey I heard you got 63/65 on your euro test.

I probably shouldn’t have told so many people because EVERYONE I know knows I applied ED. But when I’m nervous about something I can’t stop talking about it. And I go to a tiny tiny school so a lot of people will hear about it really fast if I get rejected.

It’s ok lol my sister and I have a $50 bet, so either I get into Penn or I get $50 so it’s totally good xD

Why would she bet on you not getting in…
