Hello all! I am in the middle of my third semester at Penn State Greater Allegheny (a branch of Penn State). I am doing the 2+2 program as I have to finish my major at University Park. I was wondering if any of you knew how this process takes place? I know that I will have to enter my major during my fourth semester in order to be transferred, but how does housing work? When should I start looking at whether I should live in apartments or dorms? Am I still able to join a sorority as a junior? I have so many questions but my academic adviser is never able to answer any of them! I’ve heard several different answers to my questions but no one whose ever had any experience with it. Thanks so much!
Hi! I have two kids at Penn State UP. From my experience, most upper classmen live in off campus apartments although they are very close (walking distance). However, if you think you want to do that you should start calling now as some buildings are probably full already. Don’t worry though as there are plenty of places to live and they do have on campus housing also but the lottery for that is probably very soon. You should just call housing and see. You can always go in the lottery and see if you get something and then decide if you want to take it. As far as sororities, although they may take juniors, keep in mind that your pledge class will be almost all freshman so that may influence whether or not you join one. There are so many other organizations to get involved in though if you decide not to join a sorority. Most seniors go to bars and not frat parties so it would only be the one year that you might be affected. Hope this helped!
