Penn State Class of 2028 Official Thread

Micro is an entrance to major and a difficult class for many. Highly recommend taking this over summer. Don’t be afraid to sign up for tutoring. This class - more than any other etm (entrance to major) - is one that kids struggle in more than other classes. Set yourself up for success.

As someone who took a Mirco Econ class at an equivalent to AP level (wasn’t officially AP but higher then honors), I know that its pretty hard so taking it over the summer sounds good. Thanks everyone for your advice!

Is Penn State still admitting kids on a rolling basis for the fall?

Except for niche majors, probably only to branch campuses.

Seems they were still inviting applications this week to the main campus.

Where did you read that? Popular majors at UP (for example, business, engineering, psychology, nursing, biology) are certainly filled at UP. You could call Penn State’s admissions office and ask one of the admissions officers if they are still accepting applications, but I doubt that they would tell you which majors, if any, are still open at the main campus.

They sent my son an email this week encouraging him to apply to “Penn State.” It didn’t say a word about the main campus no longer admitting students or that the application would be for admission to a satellite campus. Nor did it ask him to designate a satellite campus.

Is this for sure? UP isnt accepting anymore new kids?

He can submit an application but I expect he will be admitted to a commonwealth (branch) campus. I believe a 2nd choice campus must be listed on the PSU application. Checking the box for consideration of summer start may help a bit.

I doubt that they’re admitting more students to main campus for the more popular majors and DUS, unless they seriously miscalculated the number of commitments they expected to receive to date.

I applied DUS. Could you tell me some less pop. majors I could possibly ask them to reconsider me for in the case I am rejected to main?

Possibly some majors in the colleges of Liberal Arts, Agriculture, Health and Human Development. I really don’t know which specific majors. What are you interested in?

I plan to do computer science, i just did DUS to try to get in. I can aways do some major in those college then transfer to the engineering college right?

I just looked at some of your earlier posts. With a GPA below 3.0, you don’t really have a chance at getting into main campus, no matter what major you choose. Have you been admitted to any other colleges/universities?

My son was accepted for engineering at UP about 3 weeks ago. So it’s maybe not out of the question.

Congratulations to him. Perhaps Penn State keeps a few spots open for very high stat students who apply late. Or maybe a larger than expected number of students who were admitted early turned down their acceptances and there were openings for high stat students. I realize that many schools have been overwhelmed with the number of applications and may have misjudged yield.

I got rejected from pitt main campus, accepted to johnstown. Maybe my heavy course load will help make up for the low gpa? Also the upward trend of my grades?I submitted after the first semester, so will they look at the grades as well (i only had 1 B).

Pitt got back to me in 1 week with the rejection after I submitted. I submitted pitt and penn state on the same day, so its been about 2 weeks for penn state. I might be drawing at thin air but maybe penn state is taking longer because my application went to committee review? Which is a good sign that I didnt get outright rejected off the bat?

Looks like you asked a month ago and had responses then.

Have you actually applied?

The D in Calc is problematic.

At this point, all you can do is wait.
