Yea, i applied march 21
Which campus did you select as your second choice?
beaver
I think a more likely scenario is that Beaver is evaluating your transcript.
Are you prepared for college and worked through what was the driver of lower grades?
I think Beaver is a possibility. University Park is highly unlikely. Penn State weights GPA over SAT/ACT. Pitt tends to do the opposite. I think your test scores are what got you into Pitt Johnstown.
Yes, I feel like im more than prepared now, ive grown a lot over the 4 years and I wish that I started off hs with the organization i have now
Johnstown and Beaver acceptance rate are almost 100% though. Also, pitt has an average of around 4.0 gpa
Beaver is a good choice for starting a Computer Science major, since this campus now offers a 4-year Computer Science degree as well as the 2+2 plan. Hopefully you will hear back from PSU soon.
thank you!
Since you have already taken a high level Econ in high school, you may want to consider taking the Microeconomics CLEP exam. Itâs like AP, but way easier and itâs something you can take on your own at home using an online proctor.
Penn State serves a lot of adult learners so there are numerous ways students can get credit beyond just the AP/IB exam.
Another option to consider: ACE/Sophia Learning. In a nutshell, you would use the Penn State transfer credit tool to figure out which courses they will accept. Then you sign up for Sophia learning, do the online modules/quizzes, and if you pass with an average of 70% or higher, the American Council on Education (ACE) will grant you credit. Then you transfer that credit to Penn State.
Between CLEP and ACE/Sophia Learning, one of my kiddos got credit for Math 140 (Calc), microeconomics, macroeconomics, history gen Ed, and a science gen Ed. She started freshmen year with 16 credits.
Now if there is any chance you may switch to an Econ major down the road, I wouldnât do it.
Iâm not too concerned with the number of credits I enter a university with but rather how to best handle weed out classes and it seems like the LEAP Prides make that process a bit more manageable. Thanks for the information though!
I got rejected from main and accepted to beaver for DUS. Iâm quite disappointed although I knew there was a slim chance of getting accepted to main anyway. However, im not ready to give up yet so i want to send them an email asking to reconsider me for main with a different major. Can anyone give advice on which schools/majors are likely to still be accepting applicants? Iâm guessing that DUS is actually quite popular and it was most likely full when I applied. Thanks!
As several of us have told you multiple times, you are not going to get in main campus for any major with a GPA under 3.0. Choose between PSU Beaver or Pitt Johnstown or try applying to one of the PASSHE schools.
At this point itâs too late. You might have had an outside chance if youâd applied to a less requested major when weâd mentioned it but UP is now full for all majors and all sorts of things have started already. Leap registration started 6 weeks ago!
So if you donât like Beaver, your only choice is to try and see if you can be admitted to another branch than Beaver, perhaps Abington (which is large, has dorms, and is near Philadelphia)?
In your case, Beaver is pretty good for CS- small enough that youâll get support but with greater offerings than most âsmallâ branches.
Otherwise you can apply to PASSHE universities still taking apps or attend Pitt Johnston.
While I understand you are disappointed, I see an opportunity here.
Prove yourself at Beaver (or another campus). Honestly, the small school environment will allow you to showcase your abilities without being overwhelmed by a large school environment. Get a strong foundation in the first two years and then go to UP and prove your capability. (in the meantime, save a little money by lower tuition at Beaver).
There are many kids with 4.0 who get to UP and struggle freshman year. You donât want to be that statistic. See this as an opportunity to prove your abilities and your strength.
Op is exactly the student for whom 2+2 was created: wants a PSU-UP degree, doesnât quite ha e the HS record to start freshman year at UP, but shows the potential to get there&succeed after that transition period.
S24 was accepted into Smeal Sapphire Leadership Program. He received an email from them. Heâs still on shock. Definitely wasnât expecting it.
Wow congratulations !!!
Itâs a really elite/special program.
Thank you
Congrats to him! I was rejected from that program but I heard wonderful things about it!
