Penn State Class of 2029 Official RD Thread

Thanks so much! Rowan and Scranton are her top choices and we’ll be going to the accepted student days over the next couple of weekends. I’m pretty sure Rowan will be the one. She really liked the campus and I think it would be a great fit for her. It seems like an institution on the upswing and in the current climate probably a solid place to be.

Thanks. We dropped the option.

We dropped the plan of entertaining PSU.

My son was offered Biochemistry in U. Del but an opportunity to switch to ChemE in the 2nd year (but no guarantees). He got a similar offer from Boulder with definite guarantees on switching if a GPA of 2.7 or more is achieved which is no big issue. So we are considering Boulder now.

:tada: Biochemistry at UDel is superb. And of course ChemE there is nationally-known.

Do ask what % achieve the 2.7 in the pre-reqs for ChemE at Boulder - in some subjects, it’s not that easy to get.

How long does it usually take for them to send out decisions?

~6 weeks, less if you requested a branch campus (not UP) as a first choice.

I created a thread for LEAP stories!

Hi - finalizing senior year course schedule and know the goal is 4 credits of history. Through junior year have completed World History 1 (1 credit), World History 2 (1 credit), US History (1 credit), Civics (1/2 credit Pass/Fail) and have US Civil Rights (1/2 credit) scheduled for senior year. 4 total credits but only 3.5 for a grade. There is no full credit History option unless it is an A/P. Would it be better to register for A/P history (it would mean dropping A/P Psychology). Is this a question I could pose to admissions? Thanks.

That’s 4 credits - assuming you passed Civics - so you should be good.
You could also enroll in a dual enrollment social science class at a local CC (they would have a lot of variety). If you take AP Psychology that also counts as a full credit social science and in that case you have 5 credits in history&social science

Only your grades from 9-11th grade are taken into account (+any middle school credit that’s on your HS transcript) but all credits that count toward HS graduation (including MS if you took HS classes then as well as 12th grade) are part of your SRAR.

What major are you thinking of?

In addition to social science, make sure you are taking Math (precalc, calc, or stats), English, Foreign language (unless you already reached level 3 or 4), a science appropriate for your choice of major. Add a “personal pick”, a class you’ve always wanted to take or related to your major.

Thank you, good to know! Currently have 4 credits of English, Spanish, History, Science and Math (currently registered for Trig, should that switch to precalculus?). Unsure on major but Penn State Main is 1st choice!

If precalculus is full year, yes - it’s better than a half unit of trig (unless you’re applying to a college where you won’t be taking any math). Add elementary stats to either class if you can.
Precalc is basically a pre-req for Business and all the STEM majors because the first semester starts with calculus.
For science, make sure you have taken biology and chemistry and, if aiming for one of the STEM(ish) colleges*, also physics + for these colleges submit a SAT score with a 600 math subscore if at all possible.
(* That’s Eberly, College of Engineering, EMS, and IST).
If you’re unsure of a major, apply DUS.
Based on what you said above, your senior schedule should include
Senior English (honors or AP, preferably)
Precalc
Stats
Us Civil rights
AP Psych
A science
Something fun or interesting to you
