🐾 Penn State 🐾 Early Action Class of 2030 Official Thread

As a parent, this process is just so hard - we have guided our kids and seen first hand how hard our kids have worked. We all want the best for them but we have no control over the process or outcome and it’s just hard to wait on the sideline. I was a mess with my older kids but much better now. I totally agree that they end up where they are meant to be! Trust the process is my new mantra! Hang in there!

I am same as you - we can learn a lot from our kids!

I’m just hoping the universe is kind to me and she receives all her decisions on the earliest end of things. The say patience is a virtue, but it’s definitely not one of mine!

We had a jar where I had to put $1 for every time I asked my kid “did you get an email” “did you see an update in portal” “let’s check portal just to see” “maybe it went to spam” “I heard of a crazy portal astrology..let’s check” We ended up with a lot of money to treat ourselves to a nice dinner :joy:!

My daughter just ignores me when I ask her to check the portals. She got an acceptance somewhere and didn’t even know until she finally looked at her emails like two days later!

Not sure if this has been asked, but what is talent/ability and how is it measured if they don’t consider essays/ec’s/activity list

This is a category used in special circumstances. For example, they want to recruit the national championship twirler for the blue band - this would qualify.

IT HAS BEGUN. My son saw on a separate site where an EA applicant was accepted yesterday for UP in materials and earth sciences. Good luck to all, and as has been noted here, I’ll try not to stress as these roll out somewhat randomly.

I remember from last year, the high stat engineers were the first to hear. Only a few Smeal kids heard before December.

Nobody has heard re Smeal yet this year?

Oh WOW! Before the deadline for EA even. That’s surprising. I didn’t know Penn State did that.

Firstly, thank you to Lucy as well as MYOS1634 for helping this entire community out. The parents and students on this forum are pretty anxious and your comments/help have been invaluable to say the least!

I had a question:

My daughter has her heart set out for PSU, University Park. She applied EA in September and has a weighted GPA average of 4.25 and an unweighted average of 3.4. She has taken 6APs and mostly honor classes but has a couple of Cs in her 11th grade. She does have two 4s in her AP exam though. She also submitted her SAT score 1340. She has applied DUS.

Could you please let us know what her realistic chances are on getting admitted?

She checked ‘Fall with a summer option’. Do you think she should apply Summer only and is it possible to do so given that we have only a couple of days until Nov 1st to change this option?

Did she apply test optional?

No she submitted her SAT score 1340

Anyone know when Education releases batches from previous history

I’m not sure of the chances, but I just wanted to ask because I suspect that’s the first question @lucy_van_pelt and @MYOS1634 would have asked before giving you their (well-educated) answer. Best of luck!

Based on previous history, the responses are all over the map. Penn State seems to release decisions with no discernible rhyme or reason.

I just edited the msg to reflect the SAT scores

I’m applying as an OOS student applying into the communications school at University Park.

W GPA: 4.34 and UW GPA: 3.97

Should I submit my score if my ACT composite is a 27
