When do DUS ones start to go out?
Last year my OOS D25 got her acceptance to DUS on Nov 13.
Not sure of exact timeline. My son got his acceptance 2 years ago mid-December.
anyone here from HHD yet?
Hi Everyone,
This is a little different of a question but wanted to ask here since you have students applying or currently at PSU. We went to admitted students day at Pitt this weekend and my daughter was surprised how much she liked it, due to healthcare access, small cohort, and very involved advising to help them meet requirements for PA school post graduation. The caveat is she’s struggling with “city” life. She is a Penn State kid through and through but is very torn between the two now. Anyone here that may have felt the same way, chose Pitt and are happy with their decision? Do they miss the “traditional” college campus? And does anyone know about Rehabilitation Services- College of Education’s advising, cohort size, and relationship with professors and advising to help meet post graduation goals? TIA (also this is if she even gets into PSU-UP
)
I think this might be a better question for the Pitt board.
Will do, thank you. I was wondering perspective from PSU families (for penn state UP) on cohort sizes, assistance with internships, relationships from professors, ect.
oh, I see. I thought you were asking about Pitt’s information.
I don’t know if there are going to be an experts here on Rehab Services within Coll of Education - it is a small and somewhat specialized major. I would encourage you to go to an admission day and ask those questions at Penn State - or even call the College of Education office and see if you can set up a meeting with someone. Obviously, if she is admitted, then that is a great opportunity to ask those questions.
I can speak to Kinesiology as a major - I know it is very well-respected for DPT programs. The pre-DPT program is designed to make the kids extremely competitive for grad school both with the sets of classes (pre-reqs) as well as the shadowing required as a class which is also required to apply. For example, in sophomore year, they do 15 hours of shadowing, junior year 45 hours, and senior year 250 hours. (or something close to that). To apply, they need 100 hours (for most schools… every school has its own requirement)… so they are well above that requirement and have a good sense if applying to DPT school is the right next step for that student. There is a professor who manages the shadowing and while it is the student’s responsibility, she will help with contacts and people she has worked with in the past. I have heard from DPT admissions the comment “we know the kids from Penn State Kines are well-prepared for DPT school and are successful”. Again, not exactly the same program, but a similar type program.
DS got his acceptance this morning for DUS in-state! Applied 10/15.
This is good to know. I will call and ask what type of internship/shadowing hours they provide through RHS for students interested in PA school. We spoke to someone this past summer and it sounded great, but as time goes on, of course we have more questions about specifics ![]()
Congrats!!! If you’re comfortable with it, would you mind sharing stats as it may be helpful to those of us waiting. Main or branch? Congrats again!!!
Anyone hear that has applied to the College of Education
Wondering the same!
have you connected with the pre-health advising center ?
note: it is administered through Eberly College of Science, but clearly states, “Prehealth Advising at Penn State is available to any student in any major at any campus across the University, as well as to alumni who would like to explore, prepare, and apply for training in a health-professions career, including medicine, podiatry, dentistry, optometry, pharmacy, physician assistant, and other allied health professions.”
No, this is great information. Thank you again
Wondering the same!
Decisions aren’t given in any specific order, except for very high stats students at UP and all branch campuses.
It can truly be at any point in November or December. ![]()
What you can do while you&your child wait is look through each college at UP and see if there’s any major (in another college than the one where they applied) that you (or your child) would be interested in if they didn’t get their first choice major and want to try reconsideration for UP. This way as soon as the decision is sent you can pivot.
Hi guys so i applied for college of ist august 12 i have a 3.4 weighted gpa took 6 honors 3 aps I applied summer session im really nervous and im wondering if summer session gpa is low si have amazing ec and essay i went test optional im wondering if you guys can give positive feedback and i am also wondering if anyone’s knows when last year ist decision rolled out please be kind and helpful im really stressed Penn state is my dream school I know they don’t look at at ec and essay and im applying for cyber security im in state.
Have people got int to Penn state summer session with 3.4 weighted a lot of aps and honors
I think with a 3.4 weighted gpa and test optional, you honestly are not providing them enough information. Its good that you applied summer school … your HS reputation (is it a top public HS or a rigorous private school?) may be able to help you, but I would say your chances are more likely for the 2+2 program. Have you looked at Harrisburg? They have some desirable IST majors (or used to). don’t want to disappoint you, but might be a bit of a long shot.
