My friends kids got 2+2 then asked for reconsideration under a different major and got into UP Summer from there. They did have to submit mid year senior grades to be reconsidered.
No one are you serious I go to a really competitive high school and I needed up sophomore year
Honestly, with your GPA and without SAT/ACT, I think your chances at UP are very slim. 2+2 is likely.
That said, you may want to give others time to weigh in.
No way please I’m so sad
Don’t be sad - just open your willingness to consider other schools or the 2+2. A 3.63 weighted would put you in the 25 percentile, so a 3.4 would probably be in the 5% range. SAT or ACT scores would potentially counterbalance, but you’ve chosen not to submit. It’s obviously a huge school, so their application process is more stats-based than a SLAC, so it’s really just about the numbers.
My weighted gpa is 3.48 which is basically a 3.5 if that helps
What’s the unweighted? Anyway, we can keep going back and forth but ultimately I think most folks will agree that 2+2 is the most probable outcome. Good luck and hopefully I’m wrong.
Just want some honest opinions on my chances for getting into SMEAL at UP applied business admin in state
3.82 Uw Gpa with improvements all years leading up to 4.0 jr year, test optional, 2 aps,(stat-4, psych 5) honors classes, 1 dual enrollment English class, 4 years of Spanish, in foreign language honor society as well as NHS, 4 year varisty golf, 3 year varsity baseball, sister graduated from UP 2019, one of the top donors in my schools thon club and many volunteer hours
high hopes for my dream school but be as honest as you have to be
What’s your HS profile like? Congrats on the UW GPA. I think Smeal is a guessing game this year with the shift in admissions process but if I were betting, I’d think your chances are good.
Are you taking calc this year? If so, I think you have a great shot.
when does cyber security usually come out?
anytime between now and Dec. 24th.
Generally, kids on the bubble hear later in the cycle as they are figuring out where the exact line is.
It’s impossible to guess for Smeal this year so I’ll be using what we know from previous years.
The GPA is solid especially with upward trend, Spanish4 and that AP stats class&score also good but Smeal likes test scores, so that’s something that’ll make them more carefully review rigor and what outcomes they’ve had with students from your HS with a similar profile as yours.
In terms of rigor, it’d be especially useful if you were taking some form of calculus this year - are you? Can you share your senior schedule?
Outside of these unknowns, everything seems aligned in your favor so I’d say a target, better than 50% odds.
Just in case and to make waiting less torturous, look at these majors: ETI in IST, Agribusiness in Ag, Economics or Labor Relations&Human Resources in CLA, Health Administration in HHD. Does one appeal to you? If you didn’t get into Smeal UP, which of those would you ask under reconsideration (if you do this you get a second shot at UP)?
Has anyone who applied by Nov 1 received the link to schedule a Schreyers Honors College interview?
3.4 unweighted often means 2+2, and if 3.48 is your weighted GPA it sounds like your unweighted is under that.
Did you write Altoona as your alternate campus? If so, it’s a residential campus, and many students go to UP for the weekend so you wouldn’t miss out socially and the smaller classes/more nurturing environment would give you a shot at actually achieving the grades required for your major.
Are you taking or have you taken
- honors or AP precalc? What grade did you get?
- physics?
- calculus?
- AP CS Principles?
- AP CS A?
Are your grades As in STEM/Bs in Humanities&Social sciences? Or are they B/B+ throughout?
IST is one of the colleges where they want to see the Math test scores. Is there a way you could take the December SAT or ACT? Do you think if you take it you’ll score 600-650 on the Math test?
What makes PSU your “dream school”?
Sure: Main campus, 3.9ish UW, SAT 1550, in state
We have not. I was wondering the same. Glad to see we’re not the only ones.
