Sorry, I meant to post last night. My son (in state) received admission to Smeal UP last night (12/1). His ātestā tab disappeared around 7. He then logged in to LionPath to find his admission letter, dated 12/1.
Congratulations! Fall or Summer?
Fall
What are his stats?
1420 SAT. 4.4 weighted. 7 AP (4 AP in progress), 8 H, 2 or 3 dual enrollment, and a bunch of business type classes. Lots of ECs. Multiple 4 year sports (current co-captain for 2 varsity sports); student government; National Honor Society
Our kid did summer session as the route to UP after being really against the idea initially.
He told us after the fact it was a great decision and would 100% do it again. Yes, thereās a cost factor but if the cost isnāt an issue for your family it has little downside. Found a friend group, eased into campus life, aced both courses, and was well prepared for the Fall semester.
Just something to consider.
My son applied for Summer start as his first choice. Really hoping it works out for him
Oddly, I havenāt seen anyone on this thread thatās been accepted for summer yet. I would have thought youād hear sooner if you applied directly to summer, but it looks like thatās not the case. I feel like last yearās thread had a lot more summer and 2+2 acceptances than this years (at least as of this time last year).
Our bottom is gone
What major and in state or out? Good luck!
I know. Not sure what to think of it
I wonder if they set aside the ādirect to summerā people to review with the ānot in for fall UPā people. And will take that group and decide whether they are summer or 2+2. Itās definitely different though.
We are Smeal so not sure if it is different this year because of direct admit?
Could be. Smeal appears to be a whole different situation this year.
We applied in September so this has been a long road, or so it feels like.
Hang in there!!!
Good luck
S26 was accepted to DUS summer at UP on 11/20. Summer was his top choice. Not high stats. I guess he was lucky! I hope everyone gets their acceptance soon.
I know meant to say button but it chuckled when I read it! Good luck!!
My child was accepted to Smeal for Fall start at UP!! We are totally thrilled for them as this is their top choice and truly the best case scenario. They checked the box for summer and were ready to ask for reconsideration for a different college/major if things didnāt come together. But thankfully everything worked out. They have a 4.0 unweighted GPA (all As), took just about the most rigorous set of courses available at their school including AP Calc AB (and Statistics at a local college) and 4 years of foreign language. We are in state. They also have several leadership positions and really great ECs overall. We debated submitting their SAT score but took the advice of this group monthās ago and had them submit their score of ājustā a 1300 (650 math). It was a hard decision to make as we wondered/worried if it was the right decision but just went for it and didnāt look back. Hope that my childās admission gives other kids with great grades, course rigor, great ECs (and a great essay if that was a factor at all), but a ānot quite as great per Smeal standardsā SAT score some hope that you or your child might also be so fortunate! WE AREā¦.so happy!! P.S. Thank you to this group for all of your help and advice!!
