We have a group of students at our school between 3.3W-3.5W TO waiting to hear back as well. All applied for summer, got 2+2, put in for reconsideration to UP under DUS, Ag Business or Hospitality Mgt.
I have a question about financial aid. My son was accepted to UP for Fall 2026 as an OOS applicant. I understand that Penn State does not offer much merit aid, but do they offer grants or scholarships to need-based OOS students?
Unfortunately, they don’t. Basically you’d get the federal loan, that’s it ![]()
So if you need financial aid and/or don’t have a 50k budget in the bank from income&savings, it’s a win🎉 for academics but then cross it out due to being out of budget.
Typically, public universities see OOS applicants as opportunities to get more money (unless the students help them climb in rankings or reputation and so they try to attract some with scholarships.)
Has anyone heard from a reconsideration yet?
We are still waiting ![]()
We were told by admissions they give almost zero merit aid to freshman.
My friend is also still waiting since beginning of December.
Thank you!
We got a reconsideration decision: admitted to UP! Switched from forensic science to undecided/summer. Good luck to everyone else still waiting!
Congratulations

Can you recap stats for future worried parents?
My kid also got in through reconsideration for Fall at UP. His school doesn’t weight but had a 3.72 GPA and went from a 31 (at time of application) to a 34 on his ACT.
Our request for reconsideration denied, so we’re letting go and focusing on other good options. Best of luck to everyone and hope those who plan to attend UP have a wonderful experience
This morning my daughter was reconsidered for UP, with a summer start. OOS, 3.8UW, TO. Penn State is now back in the running!
Of course. 1310 SAT (submitted) gpa weighted 3.5 I believe.
Very pleasant surprise today! Reconsideration accepted, from Undecided to Agribusiness - summer start. 3.4 GPA, TO, in-state, prep HS.
I was accepted to University Park and was wondering if I could use the reconsideration option in the portal to change my major if I’ve already been accepted or if that was reserved for those wanting to change campus or if they were originally denied. If that is a possibility but if I’m not accepted to the new major, would I keep the original acceptance? I wouldn’t want them to think I’m not interested if I’m unable to switch (I am!). Thanks!
What are your stats, the major you were admitted to and the one you want?
The new major has to be easier to get into.
Accepted in November to family studies with a 3.55 from a college prep school, TO, summer start. Very excited for the opportunity. Was considering a switch to Undecided but unsure.
DUS is among the easier majors, so should be no problem. But they will not rescind the initial offer even if the new one is rejected.
I’m not making fun of you but the notion of being undecided about moving to undecided is kind of funny
. Seem like you should probably do it.
Congrats on your admission!!
You can switch to DUS or just plan to take HDFS 101N, ENG 15 or 30H, Stats 100 or 200 (depending on whether you’ve taken something equivalent to AP stats or not - stats 200 can be used for any major but HDFS also has a stats class if you want to avoid stats 200 and are sure you want to stay in hdfs; stats 100 gives you math credits and is good prep for upper level stats), and a foreign language class. This allows you to pivot if you wish, after you’ve tried various subjects - you can always tell your adviser you want to switch to DUS during the first semester.
