🐾 Penn State 🐾 Early Action Class of 2030 Official Thread

I would wait and see tomorrow. I have never heard of kids getting decisions early.

A Reddit user posted this: ā€œI checked my portal this morning, and I saw a thing to confirm my registration for a schreyers reception. When I click on it, it says that I’m accepted, but admissions don’t release until tommorow. does anyone else see this? No email. Just stuff in my portal that says ā€œcongratulations! Welcome to Schreyerā€ but I don’t know if it’s a glitch for everybody or just people who got inā€

They explained that they found out they were accepted to Schreyer by clinking on ā€œVisits and Eventsā€ on their My Penn State portal. They found their acceptance there….in the form of an invitation to the Schreyer Reception.

So….since the emails didn’t go out nor are the application status sections updated…it does appear that this is an early indication of acceptances that maybe weren’t supposed to post this soon….or be noticed. Ugh, We are so disappointed. Lots of thinking to do now….

Are we assuming it’s a no if there is no invitation for a Schreyer reception?

We are trying to be positive, but we feel as if it is.

Is it true that it is a disadvantage to be OOS?

No. If anything, OOS could be an advantage. Some of the super-competitive PA HS may have many Schreyer applicants and they don’t want to admit too many from one HS.

That makes sense. Well, we are now holding out hope for the waitlist and/or Sapphire. Fingers crossed.

If my 2027 student with a 3.56 weighted gpa and interested in agribusiness wants to start in the summer at UP instead of fall is there any benefit to checking summer start only instead of fall with summer option? Will he hear sooner or get a boost because they really want to fill their summer admittances since it brings PSU more tuition money?

I’m not positive whether that speeds up acceptance. Prior years I would have said yes, but this year there were several people waiting on summer admittance requests and many fall admits heard first. My advice would be put both fall and summer on the application. Submit your application early. No later than end of September. This allows time to make sure all info is complete and submitted for EA deadline. Look at the PSEAS program ASAP. App might still be open or say allow late applications. Could be great for someone interested in Ag college including ag business. Great major that is in conjunction with Smeal and great employees outcomes. I personally had my son submit prior to end of August and he is fall admit to ag college for 2026.

Wait, is his weighted gpa 3.56? What is unweighted gpa? How many honors, AP, DE classes from 9th through 12th? Weighted is hard to compare school to school which is why I ask unweighted with number of higher level classes. Because a 3.56 weighted seems low for UP acceptance, unless it’s out of lower 4.0 etc. every school weights differently.

Probably 3.36 unweighted. School doesnt report unweighted. 3 dual enrollment, 3 ap, 7 honors classes. School doesn’t weight dual enrollment at all and only gives 0.25 weight to honors. Already passed dual enrollment calc 1 with a B plus, getting 4 years of spanish. 1 C honors alg 2 freshman year. Otherwise mostly B plus, some B, some A-. Very strong public high school northwest of philly sends tons of kids to psu. 27 ACT. We realize main campus is iffy but would be ok 2 plus 2 Altoona if it comes to that. 3.2 weighted gpa freshman year but worked hard to bring it up. Hope to end Spring with 3.65 weighted overall

I’d say his gpa is on the cusp for main campus. Is he springford? I know they only report weighted but it’s out of 4.0. Sounds like a decent amount of honors, AP, and DE. Our school doesn’t weight DE either unless it’s a AP/DE and then reported as AP to PSU. I’d definitely have them keep grades as high as possible. If grade is on the edge of A/ B plus have them see if any extra credit available to bump the grade. Sounds like he is so close. Apply early in EA and think he has a shot at UP. Best of luck to him. Did you visit the ag college? Definitely should visit. They also have a program called Pennsylvania School for Excellence in Agricultural Sciences at PSU over summer and only for rising seniors. Application might have closed end of February but they may accept a late application. Could be great if interested in Ag business. Just looked and application closed February 27th. But if you email them they may accept a late application. It’s a 2 week program at PSU main. Full scholarship for time there if accepted to program. Exposure to multiple majors within ag college and run by a great person at Penn State. Really should look it up ASAP.

Aw. My youngest son will join his brother in Schreyer! He was headed to U-Colorado if he didn’t get accepted into the honors college, so this is such a relief for this mom.

Did you find it? You have to go all the way to the bottom of the Schreyer page to find the button. It’s kind of buried.

No luck for my S26 with Schreyer. Likely now a decision between Wisconsin and Tulane.

My son got Schreyer! Confused about the admitted student days for Schreyer though as they don’t line up with the regular admitted student days except for one that’s full. Do they expect people from OOO to come twice? I had my son send an email.
