Hmm ok. I thought I read they do a closer look at your application if you are deferred. I do know that’s the case at other big colleges that don’t look at it the first go around (only because my daughter was deferred from UofSC and her email specifically stated this). So with Penn state Is that only true if you request an appeal after decision is made?

They don’t have an essay on their application. At least they never have in the past. They have a short personal statement that they may read if you are borderline. The essays came in with the common app that has an optional essay. If you apply directly with Penn State, my understanding is that they only have the personal statement.
In the past, reconsiderations appeared to follow the same criteria as with a first decision. There is only a reconsideration done if there is a substantial change to the application - so they would just review it again like they did the first time, but with the change.
I’m sure if you actually do a formal appeal with admissions, they will look at different things - but that is a long and involved process.

Son received acceptance to UP for IST last night!
OOS, 3.7GPA, older brother attends UP and is in 3rd year. 2 AP, 4 honors but goes to a small private high school with very rigorous academics. We were pretty nervous, but it worked out, whew!

Hi there! My son seems very much in the same boat as you as far as GPA, but were in state. His older brother graduated from PSU this past May. Also was accepted at UP for IST. He applied mid August and I was also getting worried. He did check off Summer as second choice, and sent his SAT scores but was accepted for Fall. Maybe our paths will cross one day! Congrats!
Don’t lose hope! We’re all still watching for good news to those still waiting.

We checked summer session, but didn’t need it for admissions. His sat was 1270, so we just went TO to be safe. Congrats to your son!

My son applied on 10/30 for EA with SAT scores, his scores did not get there by 11/1 due to an issue with college board, will he be considered RD? He applied for engineering.
When does RD come in?
How competitive is Eberly College of Science to gain acceptance at UP 4 years OOS? I’m wondering in relation to the overall 3.6 GPA published and compared to other undergrad schools?

If everything was received by December 1, he should receive a decision no later than January 31.
so… I just leared today from my new friends on this site that undecided is worse - and I had changed all my applications to undecided because my school counselor said it was easier…
