I have been following this chat for the past few weeks, and it has been an invaluable source of information, guidance, and suggestions from people like @jlhpsu, @lucy_van_pelt, and several others.
S24, OOS, applied 14 Oct thru’ Common App. College of Liberal Arts, Economics major. UP campus. Summer option selected. Alternate campus Harrisburg. SAT 1430. He is in IB curriculum and has average grades. The school does not calculate GPA.
He logged in today at ~7 pm EST, and there was no change in the portal. However, ~8 pm, TO button disappeared. He then could log into Lions Path. Around 30 minutes later, the admit letter appeared in the portal!
“I am pleased to offer you admission to the College of the Liberal Arts with the intended major of Economics for fall 2024 at Penn State University Park”
Once again, huge respect and gratitude for the many folks here who have shared their knowledge. For those who are still waiting, good luck and wishes.

Same! So discouraging…but at least the status changed, so maybe somebody is looking at it!!
Honestly all, there is no rhyme or reason for so much of this. So don’t think too much and just wait! UGH!

Has anyone on here seen an actual acceptance to Smeal UP or just deferrals and 2+2?
Ok…….I’m going to give some people hope here. My daughter daughter from a top school in Ct just got in for school of Ed. TO and a 3.4 gpa. Sister just graduated from psu in May. Her TO button never disappeared. On a whim I checked lionpath and saw the letter.

How to check Lionpath? Is there a link from the portal to get there? Mine still reads pending review. How will I know if my application is early action or Regular?
What is most desirable location for 2+2 for business major?

For those of you waiting for the TO button to disappear, you are not alone. It’s almost 9:30pm and it’s still there for my child. Sigh. Maybe saving the best for last, right?

I think I’ve seen 2 UP Smeal on this thread. Another 2-3 on the Facebook parents 2028 group. I’ve seen 4-5% acceptance rates referenced 2 diff places. its the white whale of admission decisions

My son got the letter this morning. EMS (Geosciences). Fall UP admission. He was also TO.

Won’t get into ECs and such as PSU doesn’t look at them.
Applied to Smeal… Many kids in his class have gotten their acceptances to UP though none for Smeal. A few have gotten 2+2 for Smeal. NO UP admits at his high school for Smeal yet this year (which is not typical for our school). He was deferred yesterday. Good news is that PSU was not in his top choices and has heard from 2/3 of his three top choices with admits to both and merit to one. He’s waiting for one more but they don’t release until end of January. He’d like to have Smeal as a choice but that may not be in the cards. Good luck to all who are waiting!

Some people are suggesting on this message board and on others that those kids who applied to Smeal UP and were not accepted or were offered 2+2 could call admissions and ask their application to be reconsidered as DUS for UP. How would one go about doing this? The student just calls admissions and asks for reconsideration and the application is changed and reconsidered? If Penn State agrees to do this would they ask for a firm commitment to the school if accepted? Has anyone actually done this and been successful?

Seems like lots of Smeal high stat deferrals.
From past years: is it typical for EA deferrals to Smeal to end up as January acceptances?
Is Smeal waiting for some kids who ED’d elsewhere to withdraw their UP offers?
