Probably depends on how quickly the IT system updates. I was assuming all the data is in by 12/22 but the processing can take a day or so, hence the stated 12/24 notification date. That’s based solely on my experience at large corporations and no inside info re Penn State.
Our college counselor said that none of his students have heard from Smeal yet either.
They will likely still have decisions on the 23rd (saturday) and possibly the 24th. No decisions after the 24th - and no way to contact admissions until Jan 2nd if you have a question or did not receive a decision (assuming you’ve double checked that you are, in fact, in the EA pool)
Are you test optional?
Yes I am.
I am really worried that I haven’t heard anything. I was definitely early action because my things were done well before the due date.
All decisions will be done (admitted UP, 2+2, deferred, denied) by Friday the 22nd but processing time (or administrative of whatever the process…) means a batch will go out on the 23rd.
All you can do is look at ALL majors, one by one, systematically, college after college, checking out those that might be close to what you chose as your major on your application, and choose a few you like in case you need to ask for reconsideration 2+2-> UP+summer. If you comb through 2 colleges per day it should keep you busy till Saturday and it’llbe productive because you’ll hit the ground running as soon as the decision appears on your portal.
to all of you.
My daughter (nursing) knows several others for nursing applicants as well as other majors that have not heard anything yet:( All early action.
This happened to us. D24 was moved to UTK RD pool because the SRAR updated after the deadline; even though her initial application & SRAR submission was in Sept. It was updated for a separate school; but UTK got the “update” too. We haven’t heard from Penn State yet, and I’m wondering if it’s the same issue.
Call me paranoid but I just received an email from Penn State Behrend inviting me to register for financial aid webinars that they have scheduled in the next few weeks. DS OOS applied EA to Smeal and hasn’t received admissions notification yet. Does this mean he was offered Behrend satellite campus and I just found out before his portal was even updated?
It’s quite possible but don’t say anything because it could be a glitch. Perhaps have him think of alternate majors till 7pm.
This way if the bad news turns out to be correct, you can immediately turn around and request a new review (“reconsideration”) for the new major. Agribusiness, Enterprise Tech (both with Smeal), Economics, ILR/HR, Health Management… This way if need be his request will be there on the pile dated 12/20 ready to be examined.
Thanks. I hope it’s a glitch but have a feeling it’s not. Between this and the TN SRAR issue that kicked his EA app to RD, it’s shaping up to be a crappy week for admissions results.
I’m sorry, other parents have reported this issue of branch campus emails (and getting the 2/2)…let’s hope it’s a glitch.
Anyone who received the deferral notice now have a decision?
I thought I saw something about this in a thread but couldn’t remember which school. When others have seen it was it a glitch or actually an accurate foretelling of the offer? Also, would requesting a summer start help for UP or is it really down to the major? TIA.
Thanks
@Mindthegap Another possible major is Energy Business and Finance. A family living near me has 3 sons, all of whom graduated from Penn State with this major. I don’t know if this is a popular major or not, but it is in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, in conjunction with Smeal.
Yes, it was reported as foretelling…and if that does happen, yes summer for sure and research the favorable majors. Otherwise DUS, so it’s easier to eventually get to intended majorprovided student maintains ETM grades. Summer is a blessing in disguise.
Unfortunately, the email was foretelling. Was accepted 2+2 Behrend and UP. He does not see an option to request a change in major. Can someone walk me through that process?
Draft an email to admissions, admissions@psu.edu. In the body of the email, put applicant name, psu id, and explain you want a reconsideration for another major for. Eg. DUS for the UP campus add summer option as this increases your odds. The email subject should state “decision reconsideration”. The email should come from the email on the account.
