Penn State Early Action for Fall 2024 Admissions

Heard back from admissions that application is being reviewed as part of EA and will hear decision by 12/24. :crossed_fingers:

If deferred, the application is deferred to the Regular Decision pool, which will notify by Jan 31. Deferrals would not hear in the EA timeline, so no deferrals would have been considered quite yet.

Haven’t heard yet @ nursing either

We are in similar position - turned everything in early, haven’t heard a peep, still have the TO button. Do you mind sharing what major you are applying to? We are BArch. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply

Sometime between 8am and 1pm

Can you give some more details on stats. Your case is giving me some hope for smeal? Is it 4.0 weighted?

Yes

3.7/4.25 weighted OOS accepted fr 2+2 at beaver, DUS, won’t be attending

Of course everyone wants UP. But can anyone give insight on the other campuses? My daughter did second choice Altoona. I’ve tried to research because she is so set on this biobehavioral program that she may accept a commonwealth campus. There’s really no other school that has that major. Everywhere else she applied neuroscience or psych. Any insight would be great!! :pray:t3:

Altoona is a good 2nd choice campus. Altoona, Harrisburg, and Erie (Behrend) are the most residential of the commonwealth campuses. Altoona is the closest to UP (about 45 minutes), and many students go to UP for football games and other activities on the weekends. Altoona doesn’t guarantee housing for freshmen but reserves 650 of its residence hall spaces for freshmen. It’s a good idea to put down a deposit sooner rather than wait until May 1 if the student and/or parent prefers on-campus housing. You might want to contact the housing office for more guidance if your daughter is accepted to the 2+2 program at Altoona and chooses to go there. There is also plentiful, reasonably priced off-campus housing close to campus.

I heard great things about Altoona and Erie from people including folks whose kids asked for it.

Thank you! I mean- it’s not ideal, especially with other offers rolling in- but it’s not off the table. Gotta work for what you want and prove you’re ready for the big time ! Haha -
Although
Fingers CROSSED for UP :pray:t3:

My son got accepted 2+2 for Mechanical Engineering, starting at Harrisburg. He’s a legacy from both sides (mom and dad). Can someone please explain how 2+2 works? Does this mean he would be able to finish at UP or it needs to be another commonwealth campus?

Here’s the language from decision letter: “While we were unable to offer you admission to the University Park campus, we are happy you will join Penn State through our 2+2 plan! Roughly 50 percent of Penn State students take advantage of our 2+2 plan, spending their first two years at one campus before transitioning to another to finish their degree.”

Any info is appreciated.

Your son would be able to finish at UP if he meets the Entrance to Major requirements for Mechanical Engineering at UP (GPA and required courses). No different than students that started at UP. Harrisburg also has ABET-accredited Mechanical Engineering and the GPA requirements for ETM are somewhat lower there. Check the PSU Undergraduate Bulletin for specifics.

Hi. I have a son who started at PSU Altoona and is now a junior at University Park. Basically, the “commonwealth” campus is where my son did his general education courses and some pre-reqs required for his major, and then moved to University Park to do his major courses. The commonwealth campus was not as fun (he reports) as UP, and it felt like attending a commuter school (not much campus community) compared to UP. But the transition to UP is seamless. It’s not a bad option as well and frankly the commonwealth campuses offer smaller classes and can give more attention to undergraduate students.

We’re now waiting to see where our younger son gets accepted (in state, no word yet).
