If every Penn State student uses it, then why are a few hundred applicants trying to log in causing problems to the whole system? Not saying you’re wrong, but it just doesn’t make sense that that would crash the system.
Still nothing here. All application materials submitted by 10/26.
My cousin is in the same boat. No news. HAS to be today, right??
Can anyone local people/current parey talk more about pennstate? We have not yet visited but planning to visit all colleges once she gets all decisions. As it’s little remote, what kind of internships and opportunities within the city. My D maybe interested in government too. Do they get internships in congress etc there?
Do they have good clubs? Is there pre-law track and advising?
You would have to send an email to the AO to inquire about it.
S23 applied B.Arch to Penn State and I can’t recall the timing of the decision but he was declined B.Arch but in the letter was offered a spot in the Landscape Arch program. Ultimately declined the spot and ended up elsewhere in a B.Arch program but it would appear to indicate that when they are evaluating the application for B.Arch they are also considering other programs you might fit into.
There are over 100,000 applicants to UP campus alone and if only a fraction of them are refreshing Lionpath, it makes sense that there could be issues. More importantly, it is not intended to be used as an admission portal. But I’m screaming into the void here and everyone will continue to use it and I’m tired so to each their own I suppose
Penn State could avoid this issue by doing a few things, like sending an email when it’s time to check the portal OR just releasing all the decisions on one or two specific dates like other universities rather than trickling them out (Clemson and OSU just to name two as examples). This is PSU’s doing and it’s not helpful telling people not to check. The anxiety comes from seeing others get communications and you’re still waiting.
I bleed blue and white just as much as anybody else. Bottom line, admissions office is taxed this year. Many don’t have the decision yet. It happens and it sucks. Many kids get 2/2 that don’t deserve it. Life isn’t always fair.
Does the admissions office send notification emails to students when their decisions are ready? Will there still be EA decisions posted on portal today as they promised?
Nobody knows for sure.
I have to say, this is very strange admissions process. So many students, who have confirmed their materials were received in time for the deadline, have not received a decision as of yet.
We’re second guessing ourselves now, thinking that although the SRAR was shown as sent on the morning of 11/1, MAYBE PSU didn’t download it or something until 11/2? I’m pretty confident that we checked the portal on 11/1 and it stated all application materials were submitted and were under review, but we submitted a few others, so I’m not so sure now. In any event, we can’t do anything about it now. Will definitely be calling a counselor on 1/2 to find out what is up. Going to enjoy Christmas now and get PSU out of our heads…
Too many applications, too little time.
I am a college counselor at a public HS in MD and a parent of a senior, many more colleges are releasing in waves this year. My daughter got her Va Tech acceptance this week but they noted they were releasing only about 25% of their decisions at that time. Agree they should send an email to check their portal from PS, I told my daughter to check hers last month only because I saw parents posting they had heard back in this forum. She did get her hard copy acceptance in the mail only a day later though.
Same here. Still waiting!
My son is considering asking for reconsideration of his application for DUS at UP. (He applied to Smeal at UP but got Smeal at Erie). Someone had posted we could call the admissions number and there would be a choice to ask for reconsideration listing an email address to send the request to, but when we called there was not a menu item for reconsideration. Does anyone know where we send a reconsideration email and what information should be included in the email? Thanks!
Draft an email to admissions, admissions@psu.edu. In the body of the email, put applicant name, psu id, and explain you want a reconsideration for another major. Make sure it is a major less competitive than the one you originally had. So for example if you were declined or given 2+2 for Smeal, consider asking for DUS or economics major in the liberal arts school. Also add the summer option as this increases your odds for UP campus. Research this thread as the senior members and moderators have given some amazing suggestions on alternative majors. Make sure the email comes from the applicant email on file. It should be drafted and sent by the applicant.
Friends - I’ve been here a long time. I’ve dealt with lots of really annoying and rude parents. I usually stay because I’ve been a help to kids and have gotten so many messages of thanks for the help I’ve given.
I’ve TRIED REALLY HARD to say “based on historical data” or “according to previous years” etc. I’ve specifically said I don’t work for the university. I’ve never claimed I did.
Most times I’ve said I won’t be run off by rude parents who come down on me for my VOLUNTEER POSITION, but this time - I am. I am privy to public posts that have been removed complaining about me - who needs that?
I have never claimed to be anything other than what I am - a parent volunteer. I spend inordinate amounts of time helping kids. I have no skin in the game. I don’t need this.
I wish you all very good luck. I’m done as a forum leader here.
I don’t blame you; these latest attacks have been unwarranted and particularly vicious. I am, however, very sorry to see you go. You’ve helped numerous people for many years.
Very sorry to hear, but totally understand. Thanks for the help you have given us in the past. Always much appreciated.
