My advice would be: submit if you apply for STEM and have 650+M.
But also: AP scores are scores. So if you have 4s or 5s on AP tests, especially if they’re relevant to what you want to study, submit them - especially if you don’t like your SAT score.

My S24 was just accepted to UP for summer start. Very glad he got in to UP. Does PSU make any accommodation for kids who need the summer to work to help pay for tuition to start in the fall if they have been offered summer start?
My son asked for reconsideration for that reason (especially because we’re out of state) and was not granted because they already considered him for fall. He was offered 2 + 2 instead. We knew it was a long shot! He was admitted to Smeal for summer and was worried if he changed majors for reconsideration he might not get back into Smeal later. So- summer it is!
We asked for reconsideration also after not getting into Smeal. How long did it take to hear back?
What major did you ask for and did you ask for Summer start ?
We asked for Undecided and have summer as on option. He got 2 + 2 for Smeal for fall start so thats why we asked for reconsideration.

Not long- less than a week but he emailed them right after winter break.
2+2 transfer requirements. Looks like Smeal has too many conditions to transfer which makes it hard 3.2 gpa and has to business undecided with in 2 semsters need to be transfered is that only option works for transfer ?
I am not sure if anyone can explain how it works ?
@NJcollege2021 This information is for students transferring from another university, not for 2+2 students. Students who do the first 2 years at a commonwealth (branch) campus are not considered transfer students. They do need to meet certain Entrance to Major requirements, but these are the same requirements that students who start at University Park need to meet. And if a student meets these requirements, whether they are at UP or another campus, they are in that major. Yes, Smeal ETM requirements are usually 3.2 GPA and certain coursework; finance requires a 3.5 GPA.

It’s not a transfer. It’s called “transition” and is exactly the same whether you’re at UP (all students are premajor till Jr year) or at a branch campus. Look up “Entrance to Major requirements: Smeal” to see the classes that must be taken and the grades achieved.
That being said, an OOS student surely has better choices costing less money instate.

Last year my DD’s stats were better. 4.1 W, honors and AP classes, 2 sports 4 year varsity athlete, lots of volunteer hours, NHS.
Same HS. She got 2+2 for DUS.
Cant figure this out for the life of me.
I will mention that they know someone high up in admissions. So that could have helped.

Zero ECs? This applicant didn’t list a single thing in the Activities section of the Common App? Nothing at all?
Agree that seems incredibly unusual.
I know people who work at penn state UP and their kids got 2+2. So not sure if knowing someone in admissions really helps someone get to UP. Also one of the Admissions Officers had her own daughter apply in August and in December she was still waiting for her own daughter’s decision. She told me her daughter listed Altoona as her secondary and was nervously waiting. That being said, like any university huge donations might have some play but the kind of money requiring to make an impact is probably significant.
