I would like to this this matters less in a state school than a private one, but I suspect that is naive. Maybe someone knows better.
Nothing. Never played sports. No clubs, etc.
How about jobs? helping with family obligations (e.g. taking care of siblings, elderly grandparent)? Self-taught hamster breeding and selling? Designing 3D printer models? Volunteering at church? crochet?
Yes could be many types of activities like this that donât fall into the sports/club category. Iâm guessing the applicant must have listed something in the Activities section that might provide context for the GPA and lack of weighted classes. One my kids took zero AP or Honors. He has learning disabilities and stuck to regular college prep classes, where he could perform at his best. He still got into a bunch of good schools, and used the âextra infoâ section to explain his situation. Maybe this applicant has a similar situation?
Is your other D in the 2+2 program or did she go elsewhere?
No disabilities.
My DD went with her second choice Indiana University.
Recently took a job so it wasnât on application when she applied in October.
Then I donât find the current situation with the PSU admittance that unusual, personally. If your D#1 was at a PSU branch currently and D#2 got admitted to UP then I would find that unusual. Is D#2 interested in attending UP?
Itâs not D#2 it is D#1 bff I think she is referring to. Maybe she did competitions or very strong LOR. I heard of an average kid that got into Harvard because a congressman wrote his LOR.
Ah ok, lol.
No competitions or anything like that. Couldâve have been LOR or essay.
This is my DDâs best friend. Yes she plans on attending. This is her dream school. Never thought her stats were anywhere near what UP is looking for. Sheâs still in shock.
PSUs common data set says specifically that essay, extracurriculars and recommendations are ânot considered.â
Without SATs, itâs grades and rigor.
It sounds extremely odd. Might she have missed the branch campus (in the 2nd or 3rd paragraph)?
I always find the CDSs interesting as well. PSU also considers talent/ability, geography, residency, and alumni relation status as well.
So hard to know what truly goes on behind the scenes in Admissions. I wish there were more transparency around the process. Itâs a difficult and emotional process to navigate.
Definitely UP Fall start.
Financial Aid Offers? Can any early action admits view financial aid? MyPenn State says a financial aid offer is ready to view, but when I login to LionPath, it does not show anything other than the FAFSA was received. Good luck to all, hoping for money to offset the very high out of state tuition.
The PSU financial aid website suggests that offers will go out by early April. Given that FAFSA information has only started being released to schools in the last week, would seem surprising that offers have rolled out already. https://studentaid.psu.edu/aid-notification/availability
Can I ask âwhereâ you see your FAFSA was received? We did our FAFSA on January 1st, and canât find that ours was received?
