Penn State Early Action for Fall 2024 Admissions

How long did it take for her to hear back for her reconsideration? we have been waiting since 12/18. I know they said 6-8 weeks though.

Yes. She said she clicked decline for both Altoona and UP. Then was annoyed she got more emails a few hours later. I explained it’s not automatic. :face_with_spiral_eyes:

OOS/ TO / DUS with Summer option selected…UP campus and summer start would be ideal… awaiting a Broad (MSU) and Kelley (IU) DA reply…

Any intel on a release time today or tomorrow? thanks and good luck! yes, T/O button still present… no Lionpath access yet either

Where do you see the T/O button?

Oh boy. Early March!

T/O test optional button is on left ā€œChange my Test Optional answerā€

Thanks. Ours is gone

Just saw that. Oh boy…what a huge mess. I saw mid-March somewhere else. I love that the headline is that it ā€œmay impact the timing of FA offers.ā€ Ha! I hope schools are going to be comfortable with lots of requests to extend the signing date while people sort out offers from different schools.

She is EXTREMELY independent (found out she was calling all the schools asking when EA was coming out daily). She called as soon as she got the 2/2 and within a week or so it was switched, but that was much earlier in the process. Prob beginning of Dec.

When I moved to Pennsylvania 12 years ago for my job I was shocked when I discovered what a mess the PA higher education system is.

No. They assume that if the student requested summer start, they are available to attend classes in the summer.

Sorry I’ve been MIA for a couple of weeks - life stuff happens! Thankfully there are others here who know a ton and have been helping out with excellent, timely and accurate information.

T/O button is gone within the last couple of hours… UP DUS with a summer start would be great news…

same… T/O button is gone within the last couple of hours… anyone else thinking we’ll hear tomorrow and not tonight?

Hey my deferred family out there…has your T/O button disappeared.?.. remember lionpath ?..

Click yellow ā€œStudentā€ block , first one on the left…then look to the right in the ā€œCommunicationsā€ section…see undergraduate admit?..now click ā€œdetailsā€ below …then ā€œundergraduate admitā€ link to see your admit letter !

Congratulations - you have been admitted to Penn State!
I am pleased to offer you admission to the Division of Undergraduate Studies for summer 2024 at Penn State University Park.

DS24 hasn’t seen it yet… will let him find it tomorrow morning

My son is at 5 or 6 weeks now as he changed his chosen major from computer science to DUS which theoretically is less competitve after he got 2 + 2’d. Applying to college is such a weird process as he got into two other schools that are objectively more competitive in CS than Penn State, but he really would like to go to Penn State but he is not willing to start at a Commonwealth Campus. Part of the issues is likely geography as he attends a large high school in the philly suburbs that likely sends hundreds of applications to PSU every year. If we lived in some outlying place (or in the city of Philly) he probably gets admitted to CS at UP with the same credentials. Personally, I don’t care as I think he should go elsewhere and start in his intended major instead of going to UP if gets admitted in DUS and then trying to gain admission into is desired major after a few semesters. It may also just be a ego thing with him too as one of his friends who is an objectively inferior student got admitted to UP in DUS.

Accepted to College of Engineering - Aerospace Engineering!

This may sound harsh, but the Commonwealth campuses that I have seen (at least the ones near Philly) have the look and feel of a community college and the cost for in-state residents is almost as much as the main campus at UP, although it is a lot cheaper than UP for out of state residents. Personally, I am not okay with paying close to UP Penn State prices for what is essentially a community college/commuter school experience especially considering that Penn State tuition and fees are very high for in state students compared to many other states. I am certainly not alone in my feelings as the enrollment at the Commonwealth Campuses has been declining significantly for years now (-30% since 2010 and -20% since 2016). Many people are simply not going for the bait and switch anymore. The acceptance letter Penn State sends out to the people sentenced to do two years at a Commonwealth Campus is beyond obnoxious and is actually downright cruel as it fools some kids into thinking they got accepted at UP which the admissions office at PSU has to realize…it starts out by saying something along the lines of Congratulations on your acceptance to Penn State but only when you read quite a way into the end of the letter does it state that the acceptance is to a different campus. Instead, when UP is the first choice on the application, the letter should start by by saying something along the lines of we regret to inform you that you have not been admitted to UP for your chosen major but we can offer admission to a Commonwealth Campus

Agree 100%. We are Philly suburbs and my son got 2 + 2 at Abington for Smeal. The cost is actually not that much cheaper and totally agree with the way the letter is written. He is not interested in the least bit to go to Abington so we asked for reconsideration.

Hi there - thanks for the info. How long did it take for your daughter to receive the reconsideration information from PSU once submitted. Did she apply EA? Thanks very much.
