Penn State Early Action for Fall 2024 Admissions

Has anyone that accepted offer and doing LEAP received their NSO checklist email yet? With LEAP, understanding is need that to register.

Not yet. My son called on Tuesday and was told the checklist should open by the end of the week.

Spoke with office today and emails are coming out today/tomorrow. After speaking with her, my son received his shortly there after. She also said there would be another email in April to sign up for NSO.

Is anyone aware of Penn State offering merit aid after an applicant has already accepted their offer? Does that matter? It sounds as though they don’t award much merit aid anyway.

D24 was planning to accept today after school but U of Delaware awarded her a $14K/yr merit aid scholarship last night and we started wondering if it was a better idea to wait.

Penn State is still the least expensive option for us since we are in-state, and any lack of aid won’t change her decision.

My understanding is that they only give $5,000 if you are accepted to Schreyers. Otherwise it’s pretty unlikely to receive merit aid. I am definitely not an expert, though.

Do not expect any merit.

Is she a NMF? My S received a scholarship for that. It showed up as a credit in his bursar account in September. After he had been there a month.

Less than ideal for planning, but was a nice bonus!

No, she isn’t - what a nice surprise to find that credit!

Do you have to mention Penn State as your preferred college in NMF site? My son is NMF but he picked a different college as his preferred school. I am told we can change the preferred school.

Has anyone/any of your students been awarded a Provost award so far?

Sorry, maybe everyone knows this and I just blanked, but Penn State has another tuition tier for Junior and Senior year, which also varies by major? I had only been looking at the estimator and calculator, not the schedule, haven’t really seen that anywhere else…
Penn State Tuition Rates Fall (psu.edu)

I would guess so. But wasn’t awarded until fall, so I would imagine there is time to change it if that is where you go!

So I recently committed to Penn State as a psychology major at UP, but now after some reconsideration about my major, I wish to switch to Secondary Education (Mathematics). How would I go about this change?

University of Michigan has that, too.

Some of the colleges within Penn State may offer aid after a student has some high grades under their belt. But Penn State itself doesn’t offer much, if any, aid prior to matriculating.

My kids never received any aid while students because they didn’t belong to a major that regularly gave aid and their college GPA’s were in the low to mid 3’s. However, my niece, who had a 4.0 all through college, had most of her tuition covered with merit aid from the College of Agriculture. College of Ag is one college that has a lot of money to go towards merit aid.

So no, Penn State doesn’t give a lot of aid to attend. But if your student is a high achiever, there is aid to be found at Penn State via the specific colleges.

Yes - junior and senior tuition is higher than freshman and sophomore tuition. It’s not an insignificant increase for nursing, business, engineering, and IST majors (4-6k) - but accounts for under $2k for all other majors.

DUS UP student accepted offer for summer LEAP semester> signed housing contract and paid fees… > picking ā€œprideā€ and classes once NSO opens up, correct? …

D24 accepted her offer! She will be starting at University Park in the fall. We toured campus last summer but will be back next month for an Accepted Student Day. Our tour was cut a little bit short by an incoming thunderstorm, so we were forced to bail and head straight to the Creamery.

WE ARE so excited for her, and glad to be on the other side of this college search process now. Thanks to everyone answering questions on here and sharing experiences. It has all been so helpful!
