Penn State Early Action for Fall 2024 Admissions

Same. Especially now that my D24’s application was deferred by her ED school. I just want her to have a win soon.

You will hear by 12/24. You don’t need to do the insane portal refresh. You will get a letter in the mail a few days after the decision.

Just stop the insanity and walk away and don’t make yourself crazy.

Did they apply the same major?

Disagree that they lean heavily towards OOS students. Other state schools have a higher percentage of OOS students. Stats are not different for OOS vs. in-state. That is false information.

If you were not considered EA, you will not hear by 12/24. Believe the date is Jan. 30/feb. 1 for RD. Double check with admissions.

Also worth an ask is if your application is strong without test scores, could you switch to TO and be reviewed for EA?

Yes - you will have a decision by Dec 24

Yes

S24 is accepted – Just found out by checking the status page this morning. I was a bit anxious over the Thanksgiving weekend :stuck_out_tongue:

Applied EA, Test Optional
GPA: Weighted 3.99
Major: CS
Campus: UP

Also applied schreyer honor college – just submitted on Monday so we are not expecting anything just yet.

The answer for Schreyer will be release in March 2024. There is one date and I believe it is March 1st. Good luck.

My S24’s portal says “Sorry, we are unable to retrieve your application details. Please check back later as we are working to resolve this issue.” TO button disappeared last night. How soon before we have a decision in the portal?

Penn State uses a portal just like most schools. They tell you that you will hear a decision by Dec 24. All of the portal refreshing is because students and parents are understandably impatient to hear a decision, but that’s not Penn State’s fault. They tell you the decision date and deadline. Until they have passed that deadline without a decision, they have been true to advertising.

As far as leaning towards OOS students, that’s demonstrably false by looking at the published admission data. 63% of students university-wide are PA residents. 57% are PA students at UP.

Merit aid is NOTORIOUSLY hard to come by for OOS and In-State students.

You also mentioned in a previous post that no one here is an expert. I wouldn’t say expert but many here have been here for 10+ years advising and educating people on the process in our own time. There are college counselors, employees of the university, admission volunteers, etc on this page. So while I won’t say Expert because things change from year to year and there is only so much we can know - we aren’t guessing either. There are some VERY knowledgeable people about Penn State admissions, majors, and processes here so I wouldn’t dismiss their information and advice as irrelevant.

Just check on Dec 24 and there’s your date! The schools that give a hard deadline often have decisions come out in Feb/March so you’d be waiting a lot longer. The admission process is brutal and lots of emotions come with that. Hang in there. You will have a decision soon!

Schreyer decisions aren’t historically released until February sometime. So more waiting, unfortunately!

I do not supply false info. I supply what I am aware of. As far as OOS….yes of course it’s a higher percentage of in state students. I was speaking more about the balance. One would think a state school would have significantly higher % in state students. That’s my point. I’m not new at this and have supplied valid info about checking lionpath etc. On another note, I received this info at approx 10am from the admission office. Admissions office stated they will most likely NOT have all decisions for EA by 12/24 as they have “10-15k” more apps this year Vs prior. Again, take it for what it’s worth. Even if you have 10 plus years experience here, things change constantly year to year. What’s valid in 2015 may not be valid today. If you don’t want my info, just move on and don’t read it. I don’t guess on my info either. I provide reality and real time info. Also, admissions confirmed that they have NOT released and summer option decisions as of yet. If you don’t want me to post here any longer, no problem. Just respond “yes or no” and I’ll let the votes keep me on or off. Thanks.

As a note, I am not a college coach nor believe in them. There are some valid ones for sure. I have nothing to sell. Just delivering info as I know it. If you don’t value my data….please skip over my post. I live in an affluent town where all kids use coaches. The coaches in my town have the kids flood schools they have zero intention to attend (I understand 1/2 safeties, not 8. I refuse because the info is out there with some digging. To each his/her own about that topic.
