All of the Engineering majors are similarly competitive to get into. Computer Science at Penn State is in the college of Engineering. Not all engineering majors will have the same entry to major requirements or GPA requirements though.
Thanks⦠I donāt know much about the different engineering programs there, just that they are highly competitive. I was an education major, so much different! Maybe I should have had him apply to something random that is only offered at Main. I had a friend who was at Altoona in education. Since she wasnāt supposed to transfer until after her sophomore year, she changed her major to Russian Studies. At the time, it was only offered at Main Campus. She got in, then changed her major back to education at the end of the year.
At the risk of piling on hereā¦
There are 40,000 + students at Penn State at UP alone, not to mention the commonwealth campus students who can also buy season football tix. The student section in Beaver Stadium holds 21,000. How would you suggest they do the football tickets? They have x number of spots for freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors in their student section. They sell to seniors first and freshmen last. Itās done through Ticketmaster and is done in the queue system that Ticketmaster does to handle large crowds for any event.
If you read the directions, prepare accordingly, and get in the queue at the right time, you should get the tickets. Iāve had three go through Penn State and we have NEVER NOT gotten student football tickets.
Iām really unsure what the complaints are about. It honestly sounds like you want small school one on one attention but the big school atmosphere?
Ah, the good old days when you could do that! My son was at Altoona for his first year in 2017 and by then they had already changed their processes. He was an athletic training major which required students to go to main campus for sophomore year. But the catch was he was not allowed to change his major for that first semester and he was required to take classes for his major. So if you do it that way, you likely will lose a semester of classes to Russian Studies!
The better option if your student is denied admission is to call admissions and ask to be reconsidered for DUS with the summer option. Or any other less competitive major with the summer option and then change to DUS once there so that your son can get the classes they want as most freshman year engineering classes will be limited in enrollment to pre-major engineering students or DUS.

YES INDEED. Good luck to your child!
Good luck to allā¦WE ARE!
Hello. My son applied early action Fall 2024 for Smeal. After reading these posts I realized that he should switch to DUS. He emailed the admissions office today to switch. Is this too late? Btw, his stats are : 3.6 W GPA, 1310 SAT, 4 year varsity athlete, top 50 recruit but ended up not wanting to do a sport in college.
If the application has been reviewed, it might be too late to switch. If itās not too late to switch, I donāt know if that would affect if he would be evaluated for early action or moved to rolling admissions. Hopefully someone with more experience can comment on that. That said, it does seem that the wise choice was to switch to DUS. I wish your son the best of luck!
I donāt really agree. If kids canāt handle this, thatās not Penn Stateās fault. No one is asking them to refresh a portal every day. Decisions will all be out by Dec 24th.
Well my son checked the portal to see if theyāve reviewed his application and it said under review. But they just switched him to DUS! Now it says: āYour application has been updated. Please check back soon for a status update.ā
They work very quick as it was only a couple of hours ago he sent his request to switch.
Great! Glad it was a simple and quick process.
Oh my gosh! Thatās awesome, please update us if he gets his acceptance tonight.
Wow! That was quick! Congratulations!
Thanks,

How do you check Lion Path? We only know how to check the portal through My Penn State. Is that
Bsn is required at the major hospitals in Va
If I switched my major to DUS at the beginning of November, am I still considered Early Action?
