guys. take a deep breath. just a few reminders.

  1. very few students are ā€œdeniedā€. so the #psubound could also be for a commonwealth campus. donā€™t read too much into seeing it or not.

  2. Penn State is transparent about their process.
    ā€œyou will hear by 12/24.ā€
    if you are driving yourself crazy by incessant portal checking, WALK AWAY. You will receive snail mail a few days after the portal update.

  3. yes, there have been Smeal admits. and other colleges. Just because a small subsection posts continually, does not make it true.

  4. stop trying to figure out the hack. WALK AWAY.

  5. there are 4 possible decisions on 12/24:

  • admit for 1st choice major at UP (or desired campus)
  • admit for summer at UP
  • send to commonwealth campus
  • defer to RD (because stats are too close or they want to see entire pool).

@on327 legacy means very little at Penn State. with so many alumni, thatā€™s how it has to be. With the varsity blues scandal, that took any remaining ā€œhookā€ of legacy away.

I saw recent stats that for Smeal, the acceptance rate is about 5%. Canā€™t verify the source, but that is the anecdotal info out there.

Could use some help with appeal of 2+2 decision. Son likes Econ, has an A in AP Calc. Is this less selective than Smeal and less likely to be full like DUS? What about Supply Chain which is IT based but business related? GPA is 3.89 weighted.

Yes Econ is less selective than Smeal.
Smeal has something like a 5%acceptance rate out of HS.
Donā€™t just choose Econ as a default/substitute.
Explore all the business-related in other colleges first in addition to Econ (ETI in IST, agribusiness in Ag, etc, see upthread I posted various possibilities). Compare the majorsā€™ requirements (type/look up
Penn state name-of-major RAP to see the course sequence - typically an AP score of 4 or 5 will waive a requirement so adjust the RAPs in consequence --though calculus shouldnā€™t ve skipped unless thereā€™sno required level2).

It was neither a ruse nor a hack. With everyone refreshing non stop and attempting log ins to lionpath when really they shouldnā€™t even know about lionpath yet (itā€™s for admitted and current students only), it is not surprising that the system is being taxed. In my opinion, there is a deep disconnect on this thread between what people are doing (refreshing the portals non stop) and the IT system issues they complain about.

Againā€¦the dribs and drabs are not Penn Stateā€™s fault. They tell you you will hear by Dec 24. Everyone getting all in an uproar when we are 11 days away from that date is not Penn Stateā€™s fault. They didnā€™t lie to you. They told you that youā€™d hear BY Dec 24. If you want an admission process that drops decisions on two dates, then donā€™t apply to a place that slowly disseminates them.
