It makes no sense to pub him 2+2. If summer start and/or another major within engineering (I guess it doesn’t matter as they scan freely switch major at the end of the first year?) doesn’t work, PSU may not be the school your kid wants to go, as it may not be the same PSU anymore. Clemson is a great school, tour it and I’m sure you and your kid will love it!
I’d look at it this way. If deferred near 12/24 deadline, it means PSU finds your stats good enough for UP fall start, but needs more time to evaluate the application in detail and in larger context, so still a good chance for a fall start at UP. One thing an applicant may still do is to add summer start (if not done already and if it’s a viable option) before a final decision if deferred.
It’s my personal opinion that the success rate for a 2+2 reconsideration request to a fall start will be low, regardless of when you do it, unless you change to a less competitive major; and still no guarantee.
I completely understand! His counselor described Penn State UC as not a reach for him and a school with an excellent engineering program. This probably has added to his disappointment. But each college within Penn State is different. Engineering always tends to be more selective - and it seems this year it has gotten even more so. Great for all of the students in the program. We knew there would be surprises as we moved through this process - just didn’t think PSU would be one of them. Good luck to your son - the wait is hard!
Thank you. I completely agree with you - and am looking forward to touring Clemson very soon!
Thank you!
This is just the positive spin he needs right now!
For those who have requested for reconsideration, has your application information in your portal been updated with the new major, term, campus ?
The message I received when I submitted the reconsideration on the portal said it would update in 2 business days, which have since passed and the information had not updated.
On the left navigation in the reconsideration tab it does indicate one was requested. So I’m fairly certain it’s been received.
Just was curious to see what others experiences have been.
I would check his SRAR once to make sure if some grades are not entered properly.
Think the only indication is the tab showing requested.
We for an email two days later confirming it was in.
Our S25 is still waiting for Engineering (Aero) after applying EA… OOS, 3.78 GPA, 1440 SAT, APs, great ECs (including a selective 2 year NASA internship).
He’s in at Ohio State (Pre-Aero) and awaiting others, but we toured Penn State in November and LOVED the new facilities and curriculum. I think this is one he really wants.
Good luck to everyone else still waiting! This can be so tough.
Right there with you with very similar stats! Hoping tonight is the night the TO button finally disappears - lol!
We are still waiting as well. Crossing fingers for tonight because the wait is brutal.
You may wait another day or two and following will happen:-
- You original acceptance letter will disappear
- You reconsideration request (which is currently locked) button will disappear
- Your requested changes will updated in application details
You will receive an email from PSU admissions confirming your request around the same time.
For the time being as long as you see the reconsideration request button as locked, rest assured PSU has received it.
PSU is not processing any reconsideration requests before they process all initial decisions.
Something to assure the folks still waiting for decisions.
All these backdoors… TO button disappearing, LionPath access… just tell us already!
Trying to stay positive on my daughter’s reconsideration. 3.7uw/4.0w with 13 H/AP/DE and still kicked to 2+2 for Criminology. It’s a top 5 program, so I’m guessing every kid in the country wanting criminology adds PSU to their common app. Switched to her second choice major and back to waiting…
I’m rooting for your kid to get a fall start at UP. Waiting sucks, isn’t it?
From what I’ve seen is that PSU is looking at either extremely high stats + rigor for fall start at UP across most majors, especially if TO.
There’s some leniency on the UW GPA (not rigor, in context to the high school offering, of course) if a strong SAT score is submitted.
Yup, the waiting is the worst. She selected summer option also, part of me is hoping that’s what she gets. I think starting early would be good for her.
Blessed are the parents whose kids are willing to go the extra mile in pursuit of their dreams.
I feel personally hurt when such bright kids have to deal with so much uncertainty. But I guess, that’s a life lesson we as parents need to help them learn; still very hard to be in a limbo.
My best wishes to you and your daughter.
We’re STILL waiting to hear. Criminology also. Very high stats, top of her class, and honestly we weren’t worried about not getting into PSU until now, but kinda getting worried.
