lol… well these are actually “VIP Access” front doors… you learn sooner than they expect you to…
Jokes aside, I hope you hear today.
How do you access the lion portal? Same Penn State issued email and password as the other portal? Tried, but wouldn’t allow access. What does that mean?
It means the decision is not made yet. Can only access when a a decision is made.
Changes about 7:30 pm on the date of decision.
Appreciate the info, and everyone’s support!
Will the TO button disappear at 7:30 as well, or just sudden access to Lion Portal?
Both happen simultaneously
You will know when you get into lionpath - it gives a screen to accept terms etc. After months of waiting - it takes a while to mentally process! Also - the letter doesn’t come right away - comes maybe around 7:45 pm est or so and is not accessible via phone if you have certain security features, but maybe can try view website as desktop on the phone. It works with laptop. Good luck!!!
Lately there have been a number of cases when TO button did not disappear, but lionpath was accessible and decisions were available in the evening after 7pm. Something to keep in mind. Good luck for today!
I know exactly the feeling you’re describing. Like, am I really seeing this?
I was able to view my son’s letter on my phone.
Curious to get @MYOS1634 or other’s perspective or opinion. My daughter wants to pursue Smeal and was admitted last week to DUS with a summer start. Penn State is her clear number 1 but having a difficult stomaching the additional cost of summer especially considering she has been given merit at some other schools that make it already significantly more. Looking for any advice on a path to get them to consider her Fall entry. I’m assuming the ship has already sailed for DUS as supposedly they should have evaluated her for that before pushing her to summer for DUS.
That being said, assuming the only path is another major/college any advice on what programs to pursue or strategy? She had the strongest interest in the Human Resources major in Liberal Arts and to a lesser extent a couple of the majors in the School of Communications. Also, if she went this route and got in how difficult of a path would it be once she is there to get shifted back to DUS so she could continue pursuing Smeal? Kind of torn whether to go down this path is her interest is Smeal and she has a path to that in place with DUS.
Her profile: TO, 3.65 unweighted and 3.76 weighted with 3 APs and 8 Honors. Current math is Honors Precalc, took 2 languages (one for 3 years and another for 2). Attends a small private high school in Atlanta that has a pretty strong reputation. ECs are solid with highlights including Editor of the Yearbook, works as a counselor at a summer sleep away camp overseeing children, and a high school internship for a Fortune 100. If it makes a difference her fall grades look like they are going to be strong (either all As or all As with one B plus). I’m also an alum.
Penn State is one of 9 schools she has gotten a decision back and has been admitted to 8 with 1 deferral (South Carolina).
Thanks for offering any perspective.
My son has similar stats and also got the summer start (and deferred at SC,lol). This is completely just my opinion but I think if her goal is Smeal the DUS summer start would be better than picking another major. Plus she can go into fall already having 6 credits! Good luck with whatever decision she makes!
I agree - my daughter has similar stats 3.6 uw 4.0 w and submitted score 1290 and got 2 + 2 for DUS, so take the summer!! We are in state. She also has a lot of AP, Hons, ECs, leadership - so it is a bit random…
So weird how one person gets in and not the other with a very similar profile. Maybe out of state made a differnce? We also visited campus and attended Admissions events 3 times over the past year, but supposedly they don’t track demonstrated interest. She also has volunteer hours for Penn State Dance marathon through the local alumni chapter here. She also communicated and developed a little bit of a relationship with her regional admissions officer, not sure if that makes a difference either but it certainly didn’t hurt. Who knows though?
Okay so here goes… LionPath say something like a decision has been made check back soon (kiddo had LionPath from summer enrollment past few years).
I could be totally off here, but here’s my perception.
- OOS doesn’t matter much. Penn state enrolls a lot of OOS kids which means they accept many many times more - due to poor OOS yield.
- PSU doesn’t really have time to look into your essays, ECs. GPA and rigor drive decisions with a little helping from test scores (if submitted)
- For kids with similar stats having different decisions, it could be hooks or a very unique situation.
My childs portal is now showing this message. They have had all of her materials since October 16th!!
Penn State is currently receiving a high volume of supporting application materials. Supporting application materials are being processed and recorded on the date received. Please check your MyPennState profile regularly for updates to your checklist items. Once your checklist items are complete we will begin a review of your application.
System glitch. If you’re sure it was completed in Oct, then just ignore it. You may get a decision soon.
Pitt engineering has a great program. Two sons in process and maybe my daughter as she was accepted there as well.
My son did reconsideration also. When your child goes on their portal does it show you that a reconsideration was submitted?
Update. Now everything looks back to normal. It doesn’t say check back soon. Looks just like it did previously. And the TO buttons can still be toggled back and forth. I’m thinking we checked at just the “wrong” time when an IT push or update was occurring… seems like my son will be waiting one more day… and then after that it goes into the weekend… so we’re probably in it until the very last minute of 12/24. Poop.
Same here
