Son rejected to main campus but offered spot at Harrisburg campus. Applied for pre-business. Little surprised since submitted 33 ACT and decent stats (3.4uw, 4.03 weighted). But plenty of other admissions received from god schools so he’ll be fine.
Thanks!
Is 2+2 considered better than getting deferred?!
My daughter was accepted on Dec. 11 and got a folder with the acceptance letter and a sheet of stickers earlier this week.
The wait is finally over! My daughter was accepted, UP fall start for Criminology! This is the first school she’s heard from, and I’m so thrilled and relieved for her to have gotten an acceptance before Christmas break so we can all breathe a little easier. Yay!!
My daughter got one in the mail from PSU about a week after her portal decision. Maybe it depends on the specific college…she is Eberly
My daughter was accepted on 11/27 UP Fall 2025 and received a packet in the mail about a week later - welcome Future Penn Stater
Son Finally got the email. In for Smeal at University Park but would have to start summer (which I think would be good for him)
Stats, if it helps others waiting:
OOS - DC area
1320 SAT
8 APs, most others honors class
3.73uw, 4.5w
Decent ECs
I think OOS matters because they are at a budget deficit…but there is subjectivity in the process too I’m sure. So many qualified kids.
I feel like they are mainly looking at uwGPA and cut off seems to be around 3.6-3.7
I think 2 + 2 is better but that’s just my opinion - the kids deferred at our HS seem to be more yield like extremely high stats which is weird
My kiddo got a packet from PSU with their Nov. 2024 acceptance though this did take a few weeks. Admissions office is probably just backed up right now (and it’s the holidays, lots of mail competition with all the holiday cards & packages)
Is agribusiness something that is in conjunction with smeal though? It’s still not as popular a major? It sounds interesting. How easy is it to switch majors once you’re there. If he chose that and got in and hated it. I’m assuming switching to smeal very tough but how about to like DUS or Econ?
Wait, there were STICKERS?!? I’m going to have to rifle through my kid’s desk!
I think being deferred is better because you are still being considered for UP. Then if they decide that UP isn’t an option they give you 2+2.
But can you then appeal 2+2 at that late point?

Yes, Agribusiness Management is in conjunction with Smeal but isn’t a Smeal major. I don’t know how difficult it would be to change to DUS. Probably easier after fall semester and with very high grades. To get into Econ, I think he would need to change first to DUS.
Yes
There’s a reconsideration button on his portal he needs to change his application to resubmit. Could be a change in major or if he didn’t put summer start before he can now apply to that
It sounds like this major doesn’t just produce people working in the food industry but also in general business. Might be a good path. Will look into it. Thanks!
Also is it really that less popular that it might be easier to get admitted to UP with that major? What about communications?
