As others mentioned, there is no 2+2 for nursing (wish there was). Which campus was she admitted to for nursing? My daughter is at Altoona, but Behrend also has nursing, as well as some smaller campuses that are more commuter campuses. If she got one of the other campuses, she might want to ask if she can switch to Altoona (or Behrend). Altoona is closer to UP than Behrend, though. One benefit to the branch campuses for nursing is it’s less expensive and there is a better chance of getting a scholarship. My daughter has the Provost Scholarship, which she would not have gotten at UP. It is very different from UP, though. They do go to UP for football and other events, since they can have cars at Altoona.

thank you all for your responses. her mom may have relayed the incorrect info with 2+2 but she did get altoona. let’s see what she decides then.

I know that Penn State is not known for giving much merit but is there anything that they give? And if so, when do they notify?
My son received an email after he was accepted about additional scholarships that he could apply to. If you haven’t already, those might be worth looking into.
My current junior at PSU received the Provost scholarship and the notice came in January that year (2022), then she found out she was admitted to Schreyer the first week of March and then she received a smaller one for the college of Earth and Mineral Science maybe late March.

Rolling and it’ll start coming out in January.

That’s different. PSU does give merit that you don’t have to apply for. My older daughter received after she was accepted a couple years ago, I just don’t remember how far after acceptance.

So the reconsideration request still asks for an alternate starting campus so you could switch your major to one you didn’t originally want and still end up getting placed in a satellite campus majoring in something you didn’t even want to begin with?! Seems not even worth it in a sense, no?
Reconsideration is an opportunity but not all wish to be reconsidered. Most applicants would rather attend a university that admitted them outright.
Reconsideration only matters to students who really want to graduate from Penn State and attend UP as freshmen rather than as juniors. Not all reconsideration requests can be accomodated. The same standards are upheld in both rounds.
That’s why students need to choose the major they request carefully: it needs to be less competitive, obviously, but it also needs to match the student’s academic profile. If you’re reconsidered for that major and still don’t get UP, it means their data indicate odds of failing out are high and/or the student would have better chances going the 2+2 route.
At that point the student has hopefully received other offers and can decide what they prefer: if they’re instate, they can attend a branch campus for 2 years and graduate from PSU, or they can choose another college for 4 years. (If OOS students likely have better choices in their state.)
With the new cost of PASSHE schools bringing them in line with most instate public costs elsewhere, some branch campuses are going to consolidate or close. “Real” campuses such as Altoona, Behrend, Harrisburg, and Abington will continue but Dubois, Greater Allegheny… not likely. So, for instate students, choosing where to start their 2+2 also matters.

The second choice is forced due to the software system limitation and is typically ignored for reconsideration requests.
Please don’t worry about it. You can always write an email to PSU admissions after logging the request that you only want to be reconsidered for UP campus, but it’s not necessary.
