my daughter submitted a reconsideration and was accepted to UP fall start. She was originally given summer start.

Good Luck to your daughter. It definitely is a good thing that they let you know and that she was able to change it to DUS. Some of my daughterâs friends did the same mistake and their Reconsideration was processed and they ended up not getting UP again :-(. I think we got lucky with the admission officer letting us know that we needed to change it.

Thanks. She got an email Monday afternoon basically saying she needed to pick another college by 1/20 at 11:59pm or her application would be processed as is and the answer would be no. Glad she got that at least and didnât get hosed like some of your daughterâs friends.

If you checked both Fall and Summer, and you were admitted to the Summer session (âLEAPâ), it means they already reviewed your application for the Fall and were not admitted under that plan. You can submit your application again for reconsideration (another less competitive major or college or DUS) for Fall only but if you donât check Summer and arenât admitted for the Fall youâre likely to be offered 2+2 at your alternate campus (if you donât check any alternate campus they just assign a random one).

My DD also got into main campus fall start for DUS (originally was business) and was accepted 2+ 2

For those of you who heard back on your reconsiderations. Did you get an email to check your portal like we did the first time around?
@MYOS1634 my daughter was accepted into Elem Ed for summer session (she selected summer section) but now wants to try for Fall for several reasons including going on a missionary trip during the Summer Session. Do we try to change major for reconsideration? If so which major? Or do we appeal Summer to request Fall? Or both: try 1st option and if unsuccesful, try 2nd.
@ [MYOS1634] if you reconsider summer with a different major and get 2+2, does your original offer still stand?
If she only requested Summer session and has a letter or message showing she was recently selected for this opportunity, I would send an appeal indicating 1) she applied to the Elementary Education major directly for Summer because thatâs what she personally preferred 2) but on January⊠she received the news that sheâd been selected for a Mission Trip from 6/⊠to 7/âŠ, a (prestigious/significantâŠ) invitation in our Church, both an award and a duty. As a result (she) will not be able to attend Summer Session.
Would it be possible for (her) application to be reviewed for Elementary Education, UP, Fall?
Attach the letter, too.
If they say she has to ask for reconsideration and switch majors, call immediately to ask if she can apply to Special Education (I think you mentioned she was also interested? I apologize if I confuse you with another parent) in case they tell her she canât ask for reconsideration for another Education major. In that case, beside DUS, thereâs also a community education adjacent major in HHD and an education major in Ag. If that happens I can map out how she can fall back to Elementary Ed from that major without losing any time.

@MYOS1634 thanks for your speedy response. She applied for Fall but selected Summer as an alternative to increase her chances for UP. Your advice is helpful! She was accepted under Elementary Education but if we reconsider, weâll consider the other elementary options under a different college (e.g. HHD or Ag or DUS).

If she applied for both Fall and Summer and was offered Summer, then sheâll need to follow the reconsideration process because it means they already evaluated her application for Fall and she wasnât admitted. So she canât appeal or not yet at least (appeals imply something important has changed since the application and the Summer request).
Can she call tomorrow and ask if she could be reconsidered for Special Ed/Fall? If they say no she should pick another Education-related option.

Question - what do they consider âimportantâ for an appeal? My child is thrilled with the reconsideration acceptance for summer, but my pocketbook isnât. We can make it work if it comes down to it.

Originally she was criminology major and got summer start. We resubmitted for DUS and got fall start.

Hi! My daughter put a reconsideration in for Comparative Literature after getting 2+2 Altoona as a DUS major. She has not heard back yet. She has another major sheâs interested in HHD. Which college do you think is better for admittance to UP.
Does Penn State give merit to OOS? Was accepted Nov 21 and no mention whatsoever. Thankfully, she has been accepted with scholarships to other schools, But Penn State would be ruled out if there was no scholarship offered. Kind of wanna know so that we can decline and be transparent. Thanks!
I was wondering if you knew if they take longer to review international studentsâ applications? I applied EA and have not heard back yet.

For the good of the cause and data for the Forum, Son applied EA to Smeal UP Sept 1st.
Stats: In state UW GPA 3.96, Test Optional, 12 Honor/AP/Dual Enrollment, parents alum, no summer selected
Given 2+2 at Satellite Campus, somewhat taken back by this decision, maybe TO wasnât the best idea, or rigor wasnât there (Calc is being taken 2nd semester)?
Reconsideration to DUS to UP, also no Summer Option, was just admitted to UP Fall 2025. Thank you to MYOS1634 for your guidance, insight and support of PSU and this forum.
