Sapphire is a cool program and there’s no risk in applying, only benefits (unless rejection would really make them feel really bad).
I’m really sorry about the reconsideration - it sounds very counterproductive wrt Liberal Arts majors. If kids who are interested in these can’t apply through reconsideration, what’s going to happen?
Definitely apply DUS/Summer. At worst she won’t get in and she’ll be able to move on. At best, she’ll join a LEAP Pride in the Summer. As DUS she’ll be able to pivot to whatever she wants.
So u got your reconsideration back ? From a diff campus to summer start up? Thats great for you congrats ! When did u send your recon in ? We sent ours in dec 17th. My d got into smeal direct up w summer start yay but she clicked on summer was ok but now we have a big conflict so waiting desperately n hoping . Congrats again !!!
My daughter’s reconsideration was just received, accepted to UP for Fall 2025! She did not get an email yet. She logged into lion path and the updated admittance letter was there!
She was originally microbiology Harrisburg, and switched to immunology and infectious disease within the agricultural school with Altoona as back up (less kids on campus here than Harrisburg, so I told her that may help). She did not request summer, only fall start.

Received today. Accepted at UP (DUS) with a Summer Start.
Question. Kid has 18 Dual Credits that transfer according to PSU College Transfer Tool. If he starts in the summer, he will be at 24 credits by the time he starts in the Fall. How many Credits do you need to have to be able to declare a Major at Smeal and what are the GPA requirements?
Congratulations! Glad to see that DUS ended up with a better result than Criminology. My daughter just changed the reconsideration of her Criminology 2+2 to DUS +summer.
DD received reconsideration this morning. She was accepted to DUS at UP Fall start. She’s super excited.

At first she Applied for Reconsideration to Global studies at UP on Dec 17th. But an admission officer got back to her and said that she can’t apply for reconsideration to the same college as original application. He was very helpful and asked her to change the college. She requested DUS at UP with NO to summer since she has to work. Also wrote an email about how much she loves UP, why she can’t do summer, and how she continues to do well Senior year.
We had very little hope since we thought DUS will be harder than Liberal Arts, especially since she stuck with NO to summer. Good luck to everyone waiting. When I called last week, I was told that they are looking at reconsiderations. So hopefully everyone will hear back soon
My son’s request was granted as well! He’d been 2+2 at Scranton for business. Changed to education (which I really think is a better path for him) and got into UP! He’s psyched.
Congratulations! My daughter was in the same boat re needing to apply to a different college. Unfortunately for her, no one told her until this week. Changed to DUS but is now a week behind, I guess. Really encouraging to see students getting DUS acceptances over Liberal Arts.
They may have decided that rather than re evaluating for specific CLA majors (since that’s the college with the largest choice and greatest variety of majors – along perhaps for difference between majors ie. Geography to Engineering, EMS, though that one has fewer options)… it’d be faster for them to have everyone be evaluated for DUS then students sort themselves out later.
My son was accepted into 2+2 Smeal at Harrisburg on 12/14 and same day asked for reconsideration request same day into DUS. Today, was accepted into Main Campus. Just posting for timeline for others. Good Luck everyone.
Does anyone know if they ever change their minds and let a summer start actually start in the fall? My son was accepted in the summer program but would prefer the fall.
