Penn State Early Action for Fall 2025 Admissions

I applied for reconsideration over 4 weeks ago. I had been accepted to a 2+2 program at Harrisburg in December. When I look at my campus info it now has UP. I think it reflects the campus you currently have listed as your first choice campus.

It reflects what you have requested in the reconsideration.
Please don’t take it as an approval of your request.

Yes, thank you. That’s what I was trying to say.

My d got into smeal summer up she did Ck box we r oos but we r having a conflict along w cost , sent an email then a reconsideration for fall dec 19th w major change so waiting again it’s torture as it is her number 1 . It’s so weird how this whole process works n how some who sent further back didn’t hear n someone who sends a week ago does so so crazy ! I don’t get the whole process .

agreed it definitely confusing. good luck with yours!

Going to throw a dose of reality here. People are getting frustrated and mad at the reconsideration timing. How many other schools give you an opportunity for reconsideration? Be happy that you still are in the game - because you’ve applied and received a decision. Many other schools would tell you that is the decision.

I certainly understand why people who applied EA are frustrated.

I would be beyond frustrated if I’d applied EA and hadn’t gotten an answer yet. And I think it’s ridiculous that people are getting reconsideration answers before EA is complete. ESPECIALLY considering RD is supposed to be out by the end of the month.

i don’t disagree that we need to be patient i don’t think anyone would disagree but RD should not hear back before reconsideration. Those doing reconsideration from EA should be priority after deferred ofc. If your applying RD clearly there was a lack of interest not to submit in EA

I tend to disagree. I think students may apply RD for a host of reasons, and not all point to a lack of interest. Some may not have learned enough about a program or school in sufficient time to apply EA, some may have financial restraints (these app fees add up!) and some may have needed more time to have all of their admissions docs, essays etc in top shape before applying. My daughter did not need the reconsideration option at PSU but had we needed it, I would certainly be prepared to wait for all other outstanding EA decisons and RD decisions to be reached before I expected Admissions to take a 2nd look at student’s file.

Instead of enforcing a second choice campus, if PSU would have allowed a second choice major, they could have dramatically reduced the volumes of reconsideration requests.
There is a lot of vagueness in the process at PSU for sure, and I can totally understand the impatience applicants experience.

After sitting on my daughters reconsideration request for a month, admissions just sent her an email saying her new major request would not be processed since it’s in the same college (CLA). She needs to select something from another college. That’s fine if that’s the policy, but they should have kicked it back immediately instead of a month later. That should also be made apparent upfront before you even submit a reconsideration request.

i’m just saying ppl who’s it’s the first pick over those who just keep applying to see how many universities they can get into. i completely understand cases of costs and teachers missing deadlines potentially

That’s not good at all. I’m not an expert, but I’m guessing wherever they enroll in a pre-major status, all acceptances work at a college level. So, the competitiveness of a major within a college may not matter. I’m sorry you had to go through this.

Think she’s just going to roll the dice with DUS and call it a day.

That may be very competitive too.
What was your originally requested major?
Perhaps @MYOS1634 can provide you some guidance.
Please also consider summer start, if you’re able to, and if not requested already.

Yes, @MYOS1634 has been very helpful with this decision. Her original major was Criminology which is apparently very competitive. It is a top 5 program nationally. GPA 90.13uw/97.91w with 13H/DE/AP. Yes to summer option.

My daughter was accepted to Smeal Main Campus and just got an email to apply to Sapphire. Assuming everyone gets that email? She’s going to apply. Not sure if the email invite to apply is a good sign?

My son got this email as well. At the risk of sounding like an idiot, I can’t figure out where the application is on the website? I can see where he can sign up for a visitation day, but can’t find the application.
