Waiting patiently for the next round of reconsiderations to come out. Daughter’s app was kicked out just before the big release 2 weeks ago for needing to change to a different college. :pray:

Same with my child. Got an email saying new major choice had to be in a different college. Any idea on when you think the next batch will come out? Wondering if we will be waiting into February now…

:person_shrugging: I’ve given up trying to figure out the timing. Thought it might be last week sometime since the deadline given to her for changing college was 1/20. Oh well…

Yeah we had the same deadline…ugh, I guess we just continue to wait and see then.

Anyone have a child get into sociology in the college of liberal arts? Just curious what stats need to look like for entrance. This was her reconsideration major choice.

So crazy how this works. We can’t get into our state flagship UGA where we’d have free tuition waiting for us but can get into Penn State Main and other comparables.

When do we hear about merit? March?

Penn State gives very little merit aid (or need-based aid) to entering freshmen, whether instate or out of state. Those students selected to the Schreyer Honors College receive $5000 a year. I think you will be notified of any aid in March or possibly late February.

So my daughter applied by the Nov. 1st deadline, but she didnt have her ACT scores sent in time…They were received by Dec 1st… Should she have heard something by now?

From what I have heard, applications completed by December 1 will receive a response by January 31.

Yes, we were told the same…complete application by Dec. 1 and get a decision by Jan 31. Turned out to be true for us. D25 submitted on Nov 30 and got a decision letter yesterday. A high stats kid, sadly, waitlisted for Econ.

As far as I can tell, they’re doing something different with College of Liberal Arts this year. Sociology would have been a relatively easy major to get into until now (unlike Criminology) but it seems they’ve created a baseline for the entire college, regardless of major - even if majoring in Economics and Classics would require different backgrounds. It’s kind of confusing because if I’m right that something’s different this year we don’t have any overview about it. It’s also worrisome for the CLA, too, since kids interested in liberal arts tend to be interested in several of them, so if they’re blocked from applying to a different major of interest it’s going to be weird if they switch to DUS and there aren’t many similar majors focusing on the Humanities elsewhere (the way Engineering or Business have adjacent majors in 3 different colleges.)
Anyway :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:

No possibility of Reconsideration?

How difficult is it to switch into CLA if admitted under a different major?

Interesting. I am thinking we may not see a change with the sociology reconsideration then which will be a bummer. It’s interesting bc my daughter first applied to the college of hhd and when she got the 2+2 she asked to be reevaluated as DUS. She also called admissions and they told her the answer will be the same with DUS and to choose another major. Then she chose another major in hhd and recently received the notice the new major had to be in a new college. Anyway, we will see what happens. My son is a junior at UP, got in two years ago with far less stats than she has but I guess this is just a weird year. She has a 3.9, OOS, 14 Honors/DE/AP’s so I was hopeful she would get in. We will see if sociology and adding summer makes any changes. Thanks for the insight.

What about GMU, CNU, Mary Washington (would be comparable to Harrisburg, Altoona,Behrend? Berks/Abington would be more comparable to the UVA Wise-> UVA deal but in a nicer area.)

Wrt PSU, a lot of decisions have made sense, except for College of Liberal Arts. I don’t know if it’s a deliberate attempt to decrease the number of Spanish/French/English/History/Poli Sci majors that are staples at most R1 universities or what. I’m befuddled. I’m sorry I can’t help there.
I do keep my fingers crossed for reconsideration.
