Son Accepted to Smeal after reconsideration OOS, in his case and with the support of his Counselor, he originally applied to the College of Liberal Arts, and was accepted to 2+2, then he requested reconsideration to Smeal in January 6, and today he received the new acceptance letter.
Out of curiousity - did he get accepted for Main campus or still 2+2?
Congratulations! Smeal 2+2, or Smeal with UP fall/summer?
Itās very rare to get 2+2 for CLA and get Smeal premajor in reconsideration !
CLA is the new College of Nursingā¦
Main campus, No summer, The only thinks, when he got 2+2 before he received a Award that only works for 2+2, not for Main campus.
I read it again is Smeal , University park Campus, with Intended major of Business Administration (Pre-major) for Fall2025.
ughhhh
Once more please ⦠lolā¦
Jokes aside, the general consensus here has been that for reconsideration request a less competitive major should be requested, if you want UP fall start.
While I have maintained that in theory nothing stops one from requesting a more competitive major if thereās a genuine change of heart, but you are the first one whoās requested and succeeded on this thread (from what Iāve noted)
Many many congratulations!
The only change to his Application was that his High School emailed the first semester Official Report (January 15) to all of the colleges that he applied, no only him, all the Senior Students on his High School, the Counselors emailed the update 1st Semester Official Report. I do not know if that increased his opportunities. Or it was good luck.
PSU doesnāt even look at the transcripts, and certainly not senior year grades for fairness to the rest of the pool. They only look at SRAR for grades and rigor.
They definitely found your application strong for Smeal. Good work there.
Wow congratulations and that is very impressive. Smeal to all my understanding is way harder to get in than CLA and you were able to go from 2+2 to UP.
Unless thereās something weird going on with Admissions to CLA
Things can change - e g, competitiveness of DUS 5-6 years ago vs. 2-3 years ago.
PSU is ranked quite a bit higher than JMU and Tennessee I think?
Yes but we are OOS for those schools so admit rate is very low. In state for PSU and stats should have been sufficient based on other admissions but itās random so who knows. Also admitted to Michigan State, Indiana Bloomington, UC Boulder, Elon, U of South Carolina so who knows⦠Michigan State is same as PSU if you believe the rankings.
The rankings are not just academics, research, and learning conditions - Penn State loses a lot of places because it offers little financial aid and has few Pell Grant students.
The last decisions for Priority (everything complete by Nov2-Dec) should be arriving soon, then the last of reconsideration decisions.
(Just in case: some colleges have February 1st deadlines - often just send the ConmonApp.)
I hear you, I think Michigan State has like an 80% acceptance though - agreed that itās incredibly hard to compare these schools, and there are so many wild card admissions and rejections. My older son had a couple and Iām sure my younger one will too. I was just relieved that my younger son finally got into Penn State since his brother is there.
Daughter received her reconsideration decision a few hours ago. Originally offered 2+2, changed major to sociology and added summer. She was admitted to UP for sociology, Fall start. Good luck to those of you still waiting!
Congratulations if I remember correctly, high stats/rigor so the 2+2 was surprising.
If you got a reconsideration decision (positive or negativeā:pensive:), in order to be most useful to anxious readers and awaiting other posters, can you list
uwGPA, rigor, original major,Fall/Summer-> new major, Fall/Summer?
Thank you.
