yes i will. thank you so much!
Have there been more decisions communicated since the initial wave early last week?
Those are great stats! Is your daughter OOS or in?
Yes. My daughter got in this AM. She applied early Oct OOS.
3.94 GPA UW/1430 SAT Bio Major (pre med)
All honors and 4 APs. OOS.
Any acceptances that were Test Optional applications?
Or, any College of Health & Human Development acceptances yet?
My daughter applied TO in August; in state as a Nutritional Sciences intended major. Good luck to all waiting!
DS29 completed his SHC interview yesterday. My understanding it has no impact⦠but its a bit of an IQ test in a sense⦠its optional, slots fill up quickly⦠and if one doesnāt do it they are missing an opportunity to demonstrate interest. Similar things like attending Spring Scholarās Day as a junior or attending open houses, and so on, all may play a role in a tiebreaker vote so to speak. NOTE Iām not an admissions officer this is what we hear third hand. It seems to me the ONLY way the SHC interview could impact if the student raised any disturbing āred flagsā during the interview⦠which seems unlikely but it seems thatās the only thing that could occur.
Is it still the case that the TO button disappears prior to a decision release? D5 said her test optional button hasnāt disappeared yet. Sheās an IS student, 3.94 UW GPA (her HS includes classes taken during MS in the GPA calculation or else it would be higher), 10 AP classes, ACT 33 composite/34 ss. She applied in August for the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences as a Psychology major.
Someone else told me D25 shouldnāt have listed psychology as a major, because psych majors tend to be pushed into the 2+2 option even if high stats. I guess if thatās the case she can always request reconsideration through DUS once she receives a decision.
One of her classmates applied 2 weeks ago and received a fall UP offer yesterday, but I donāt know the major. I do know the other student didnāt apply for psychology and has a similar GPA but lower test score.
Has anyone who applied to the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences received a decision yet? I know decisions are released randomly, but Iām curious to see if Arts & Sciences began reviewing applications yet.
Thatās incorrect. Donāt fret, her stats are excellent, I would be willing to bet sheāll get in. Did she apply to Schreyer ?
question my son went direct smeal pre major
Fall start. He has 4.0 unweighted 4.45 weighted 11 AP the rest honors classes. my concern is 1420 sat score. if he didnāt put summer at all on application could they still put summer as an option for him. he really wanted pre major bc of academic business advisor
No, if heās not admitted, he will either get branch campus or denied. He canāt be offered Summer if he didnāt check that as an option. That being said his profile is in range for Smeal premajor direct admit.
I think there has been 1 admission to the College of Health & Human Development (a Biobehavioral Health student, I think). My daughter is still waiting & applied for Kinesiology, so Iāve been keeping an eye out for other majors in that college.
Good luck to your daughter!
My S25 still has the TO button too. We are OOS and he applied for Engineering in mid-September. With only a 3.85 WGPA, Iām definitely a little worried.
do u think as a safety he should add summer. Or is it too late.
Penn State doesnāt take demonstrated interest into account in admissions decisions - those things play no role as a tiebreaker vote.
I am OOS and my friends have heard back for engineering last week with 4.0 gpa and high stat scores (1500+)
Stick with what you know - it is impossible to read anything into the few posts you may see around the internet about what has/has not been reviewed.
If you havenāt heard by Christmas you can worry about it.
If he submitted before Nov1, itās too late. If he submitted in November to make the Dec1 deadline he can still change it.
Worst case scenario, he gets Smeal premajor with a Harrisburg start, he immediately asks for reconsideration DUS+Summer and gets in.
Yeah - Iām hearing about Engineering decisions too. He has a 35 ACT + 7APs and took Calc AB last year. Fingers crossed but wow that one semester Sophomore year where he didnāt pull through with his grades could really come back to haunt him.
Wow! With that ACT score he should be just fine. Sophomore year was rough for me as well so hopefully it works out!
