Penn State Early Action for Fall 2025 Admissions

I applied mid October for nursing at UP. Should I expect to hear back after Dec 1 which is the nursing deadline or sooner since I applied EA?

are all the admits this week in-state?

No
my daughter just told me that 2 kids from our high school got accepted and we are OOS. One got UP and one got 2+2. The UP admit submitted test scores and it was a high score.

I think you are a good candidate as your grades are trending upward and supported by strong test scores, and your ECs complement your interests yet not narrowly focused only in journalism (a cellist and a Life scout !). As "[t]he Schreyer Honors College is ultimately looking for well-rounded students that excel both inside and outside of the classroom. ", I think you have a good chance at Penn State and at Schreyer. Good luck.

For privacy, perhaps you might consider changing your user name; here is how:

S25 is OOS and was admitted this week

Hi,
Could you please recap basic stats when you indicate acceptance (UW and W GPA, number of honors/AP/IB/DE total when added up, test scores if submitted)?
It’s more useful to other applicants :muscle::heart::tada:

Ok thank you!! :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:

I (finally, after checking the portal for 10 days) managed to sign up for one of the SHC interviews. Does anyone have any tips or guidance on what I should expect?

Congrats to your daughter. She sounds similar in many ways to my son who also applied as an elementary education major. When did she submit her application?

My older son applied 2 years ago and had an interview. She was a recent graduate and SHC alum. They talked about Penn State, her Schreyer’s experience, the opportunities it afforded her, my son’s interest in Penn State and Schreyer’s. I would be surprised if the interview factors much into the decision making process since it isn’t required. For my son, it felt like an opportunity for him to ask questions and learn more about Schreyers. Just be ready to talk about yourself and your interest in Penn State and Schreyers and ask questions about the program.

Should I have not submitted my scores (1330 SAT & 29 ACT) for main campus nursing?

Did you check common data set for 50% SAT/ACT? TBH, it sounds borderline without knowing the specifics for Nursing.

Yes, I am more on the lower end for main campus but I assumed they would want scores for nursing since it is one of the more difficult majors but now I’m overthinking.

Don’t overthink it - it is what it is. They may check your breakdowns, make sure your Reading and Math scores aren’t too low, but it’s unlikely to move the needle one way or the other.
Either you’ll get Nursing UP, or Nursing Altoona. Well, actually, you could also be denied.
So, be productive: think about the alternatives - if you get Nursing Altoona, will you be happy and take it? If denied for that major, will you ask for another major? Or will you just take another offer for nursing elsewhere?

Thank you. Hopefully legacy, gpa, EC’s, and the essay makes up for it. I would probably just ask for another major if rejected since PSU has been my #1 forever

To be fair I think you’ve got a good shot and 29 isn’t bad, but Nursing UP is in the top 2-3 majors (perhaps even THE) most selective at
UP so you must be ready for anything.
A student in that situation, upthread, would go BBH->Accelerated BSN if she doesn’t get direct admit nursing. You can also look into that pathway.
Keep your fingers crossed :crossed_fingers:
