No, reconsideration means that you changed something to see if you could get a different décision: you need to change to a less requested or less competitive major and, depending on how borderline your application is, LEAP/summer (either “Fall or Summer”, OR direct “Summer”).
Yes but to make sense it has to be less competitive than DUS, so not COE, Smeal, or Nursing, and it has to make sense with your profile (ie., reconsideration for Education 4-8/science: if you have bio/chem/physics even if no AP science AND some activity involving kids such as coaching U8 soccer or Sunday School teacher or babysitting…= great! If you only took 2 science classes and never did anything in contact with kids = no dice) . You can post your or your child’s academic strengths and activities as well as the major they were turned down for, and people here will suggest alternatives.

We don’t have a decision yet but my son applied Business Undecided. Since Smeal is so competitive he is wondering what an alternative would be if he needed to ask for consideration for another major. He was leaning towards DUS but it sounds like that’s really competitive too? Should he come up with something more specific? He’s interested in business and possibly eventually law school.

DUS is less competitive than Smeal but has become more competitive than it used to be. Even if he doesn’t get Smeal premajor, he may be competitive for DUS+Summer.

It is way too early to get annoyed. If it is frustrating, walk away and stop checking the portal. We still have about a month until the EA deadline. Admissions is working through thousands of applications! There is no benefit (other than mental relief) from hearing early vs. late - which is exactly why they changed the process for housing.
Deep breath. People will continue to be admitted!

So Penn State isn’t a first come first served system for student housing? That’s good to hear! My daughter is admitted at UP so was wondering what the process is.
